98 E-4at trans

i,ve got a 98 suby gt with a trans issue you may have some idea,s on ,it goes into reverse no problem and in drive D it can take a few minutes to pick up or not at all ,it will then drive down the road ,oil level is ok but as i brought it with this problem im unsure of its history ,it,s at the 150k mark on the odo...should i put another trans in it ? :\'(

Take it to a trans specialist mate. Show them what it\'s doing. And they will tell you the rest. Instead of people trying to diagnose over ze interwebz

worn forward clutch seals, apparently not that uncommon

usually caused by lack of oil changes in the tranny

est cost to repair is around $1100

parts are around $300, the rest is fluid and lab

*probably* just a hunch old ladies Beamers trans does similar crap, you\'ll put your foot down, and it\'ll take a while to engage? likely it needs a trans flush. dont take my word for it though, can only be properly diagnosed through hands on see exactly what\'s wrong.

just get another 2nd hand trans for cheap and replace.

yep oil change overdue....but could be too late due to damaged seals as mentioned...try a change and see....you maybe lucky....torque converter will be worn too.

seals once worn, wont be ok with a fluid change

Torque convertors wont give the fault you have - so TC is OK

2nd hand option, could land you in the same situation

5spd option is valid, but costly if you have to pay some one to do it

Have a auto box for sale TZ102ZB3AA...Needs a torque converter...Removed and changed car to manual...Was working ok 135K km...Been out of car for 6 months....$200? :) Might sort you out!

i,m in wanganui or will be shortly as im in cairns aussie for 3 more months ,my brother is in palmy nth so i use him for my running around and i have a manual gtb 96 sitting at my parents , the 98 gt auto is for the wife and kids ,i think the trans number is TV1A4YBAAA thats if i can read my writing .....i may bite the bullet and get it done as its hauling the family .i will take it out myself when i get back cheers for the offer of a trans ,anyone you can recommend to overhaul it in my area

unsure who\'s in tht area for transmission work

the onl seals inside the trans that neeed replacing are the forward clutch seals

also need a rear case gasket, torque convertor seal in the bellhousing, torque covertor tube, front pump gasket
