leaky crank seal...

YO BITCHES.

Just bought a 98 STi about 3 or 4 months ago from a dealership... I was told they had put a new cambelt in

and was given a receipt as proof... but the crank seal is leaking like a bitch, loads of smoke coming off the

exhaust manifold... should I complain to the dealer or just be a bitch and fix it myself? I mean, it must

have been leaking when I bought it... they just cleaned things up a bit I bet.

edit: or could it be the oil pump? that wasn\'t even replaced, just inspected...

re edit: sometimes the screws holding the backing plate on the oil pump come loose and cause the oil pump to sit on a funny angle, this causes can cause the crank seal to slowly get forced out of its groove, or sometimes after market oil seals are just crap.

probably nothing wrong with the oil pump.

p.s I\'ve got a crank tool and a genuine seal you can have if you want to try the easy diy fix and just swap the seal, if it does it a secondtime it maybe something more sinister. Im in Whitby

Still got the reciept?

Try calling the garage in question and see if they have any feedback as well

Prob comes up with "has the car been tampered with in any way shape or form since purchase" as well I guess. This far down the track they could (in theory) just say nope wasn\'t us you must have fiddled with it and wipe their hands of it, no real proof either way

Just a guess, most of the car yards take there Subis and Evos there.

If you have a receipt call them and ask to speak to Richard, hes a good guy and no doubt will tell you what was and wasn\'t done if he remembers the car and you explain the circumstances.

you sure its not the rocker cover gaskets? lol I just fixed mine they were actually leaking about a 15cm wide puddle every night...

which in turn ran down and landed on the exhaust manifold. got so bad when I was going up a hill at less than 50kmph my exhaust set on fire, twice

I think i know where you bought the car dude. and If it was Elite the job would have been done right.

But yeah call and chat to Richard. He is a good dude.

I think it\'s the sump, not the crank seal... just had a look and there\'s quite a bit of oil on the front of the sump... I haven\'t removed

the headers for a really good look yet... but it seems fairly obvious. feel a bit dump.

get some"metal need-it" from the hardware, its a two part expoxy resin, kneed it together, wipe area with brake clean before you press it on, it should work well enough to last till it gets welded, although you may need to grind it off.

or you could get a roll of duct tape

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
