Some interesting info on a non-sti blob eye wrx

I spoke with one of STM\'s tuners bout the blobeye 2ltr v8 non-sti wrx (2002-2005) as I am thinking about getting one due to the fact that I just find the normal sti too "in your face" now that I am starting to get a wee bit older.

So I asked him what he would do and he said, intake, turbo back exhaust and remap. This was the dyno graph he provided of one that had those mods done on it.

Anyway I thought I would get your input on what you guys thought about that as a daily driver and in terms of the stock wrx engine supporting that power.

So convert that to engine power

336 x 1.2 = 403NM

250x 1.2 = 300hp

Also what I wanted to know is whether there are any handling suspension mods that these wrxs really respond well to or simply should be done? I want to create nice hatchback wrx that is about at quick as a stock sti in a straight line and maybe improve the handling, what do you guys think?

Buy a stock sti in the first place if you\'re just going to sink several thousand into trying to match one anyway

Better resale down the track and if it\'s too in-your-face just get some simpler wheels & lose the wing

20-25k for sti 2002-2005

10-14k for wrx 2002-2005

So nar, think I would stick with the WRX for now. STI\'s are amazing but you gotta work within your means.

Oh wow that is a drop. On your side now haha

Even just picking & choosing factory parts would work then - stock sti struts / swaybars etc would be cheap as chips to pick up and well, they work without making the car "modified" as such

The last old-shape STI hatch was the 01 bugeye.

I\'d take one over a plain jane WRX.

The STI bits are well worth the extra $$$

As much as I lust after an STi I\'ve gone down that road with a std bug eye WRX

Much lower entry cost, cheap and easy upgrades to STi bits, no insurance drama with said upgrades as they are OEM and it doesn\'t scream steal me

How hard / cost effective would be it to just get V7 STi wagon and facelift the front to V8 spec?

The V7\'s are an absolute bargain buy but the front end only a mother could love

2k for parts if you\'re bargain hunting? Dunno if an engineer and cert will be needed if a frontal support bar needs modifying/ replacing...

keep going, you need the inner guard liners too, and the EARLY v7\'s, IIRC, need some work done to get it to line up, redrilling holes etc

I looked into it too for my V7 sedan and gave it a miss to much work for me/money wise/time wise rather spend money elsewhere.

V8 wrx is a pretty capable handling machine in stock form. Also while I can respect everyone has a different thing they like I don\'t think I could own a chopped up car.
