spark plugs are located in the sides of the engine... u could say... the have a coil pack on top of them i assume in ur model, you will have to remove itmes like the battary, washer bottle, airfilterbox.

i run HKS spark plugs, dont know if there better than NGK, nothing wrong with NGK.

Just get NGKR platinum plugs bro.. part #PFR6G should be around $24-32bucks a plug.. depending on where ya go..

Be prepared to swear and curse getting em out. Unless you got small jappo hands, it can be a mish.

With the right tools, remove as a minimum the air box and the washer bottle. The rest relies on some tight manoevering and lots of bandaids :)

ngk are probably the best and most world renowned plugs, they manufacture plugs for other "performance" companys to put their name to... you cant go wrong with a good ol pfr6g platinum plug from repco but as said before be prepared to bend over for them.

If you don't know where the plugs are I wouldn't being screwing around with different plugs either.

Take the car to a professional.

::)

+1 If i didn't know where the spark plugs were in my engine i wouldn't be touching anything.

i didn't know where mine where till i replaced them in the foz (knew where they were on a "normal engine")

it's a good small job to diy! easy to diagnose if you mess it up

go platnums or similar (that way you don't have to replace them as often)

Iridiums maybe?

Then again, they may not be worth the expense... anyone have experience with them in the subbys?

In the old forums mate, there was a big discussion between Platinum vs. Coppers vs. Iridiums.. general consensus was i think people preferred Platinums maybe due to longeivity you can get out of them..

Yeah Platinums (PFR6G) in our RSK. Made quite a noticeable difference when driving - the old plugs must have been a bit on their way out.

Hey where did you get them here in chch?

At 90kms should i be thinking about changing them yet?

The manuel say to inspect spark plugs at 100k, but with a Subaru if you have the money and time i would look at doing it when you get your major service (cambelt waterpump etc...)

Iridiums VS platinum

my mate runs iridiums in his BF5 GT, i run platinums in my BF5 GT..

we experimented with them: (this is what we did)

Gap both set to 0.8

Used 3 tanks of petrol (BP 98)

Ran stock 9PSI boost only

Both set of spark plugs where brand new

Iridums set = $110.5

Platinum set = $148.50

First Tank - we drove around off boost and the results were similar, pretty much not a lot of difference, fuel efficiently and drive ability were pretty good

Second Tank - we drove around using boost a bit more, took the cars on a road trip from Wellington to P.North and back (open road remaining constant speed for most of the trip, once again pretty similar, platinum gave a significantly better fuel efficiency (min 25k more to the tank)

Third Tank - Used the car under load, towing a trailer of bikes, platinums where fine, drive well boosted fine etc,... iridiums reduced the smoothness when driving, missed a couple of time and boost was down from the normal, struggle a little bit up the bigger hills but

{** We understand that there are other factors that would influences these results, but just in general the platinum gave the better result **}

The cars come off the shop floor with platinums, why change that? wouldn't Subaru know best for there car / engines ???

Talking with my engine builder/tuner today and he said he's had issues with Iridiums in the past which have been solved by replacing them with Platniums.

Just hoping now that he sold me Platniums last time i changed the plugs :)

You guys have it easy. Add 50% to my bill for spark plugs. Also mine have a MASSIVE long thread on them.

While were on the subject of plugs, whats the general indicator of worn plugs (visual or performance wise)?

Im more used to the old skool thinking where as long as theres some electrode left its all good

Mine was both, performance would be lacking a little, higher fuel consumption and lack of power, boost was playing up / missing...

Visual you could tell me plugs were screw, all had different gap sizes and they we just completely black and caked in deposit, after talking to Armstrong Subaru they said that platinum should last around 125k-150k depending on application and use

There had to be some drawback to your flat 6 ;)

Don't forget;

+50% for oil

- 20% power

And no aftermarket parts available.

Oh and its even HARDER to change the plugs than on a 4

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

      Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
