GC8 wrx gearbox whine

so ive got an nz new 1998 wrx that ive been told has the RA gearbox but not too sure. during this week ive had the center diff out, welded, and front cv\'s removed so obviously now its rear wheel drive.

for about 2 hours it was great, drove awesome but then started developing a whurry/ whining noise from the gearbox. its not a crunching noise or anything its a smooth CONSTANT whining noise thats quickly getting worse.

it never stops and it goes with road speed, not engine speed. so in any gear it stays the same, just gets higher pitch and louder the faster i go.

could it be a bad center differential bearing from welding it? or something just coincidentally wore out? thanks for any help in advance

thats not an option... its horrible in awd. i know its not "because ive modified it", ive seen plenty of people including a friend who drifts an rs run this set up for a long time with no issues, somethings just gone bad this time...

it stays the same constantly, only changes as the car speeds up or slows down, where i put the accelerator pedal doesnt make any difference.

no i didnt thrash it, its been treated a lot worse while in awd and never gave any issues. it gave out straight after being converted and it wasnt beaten so i suspect it has something to do with the way i did it or put it back together rather than how i drive it.

it could be the output shaft bearing... it could also be the center diff bearing couldnt it? perhaps the way the guy welded it damaged the bearing?

Thats exactly what it is, Combination of weld splatter getting in to the bearing and excess load, they are not designed for rwd application that roller bearing on the centre diff is not going last either way.

If your in chch i can fix it for you.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
