Reverse lights not working....

OK so far checked most of what I can think of, inhibitor switch, plugs, fuse and bulb but to no avail.

I cant even get them going by by-passing at the plug....

Any fresh ideas welcome..

no, no power any where, and ive even tried to bypass with new hotwire to plug uder intercooler and had no sucsess thussfar.

kind of a pain, last thing this beastie needs for a WOF...

What\'s the inhibitor switch?

Have you checked the switch on the gearbox?

Rewire it with a new power and relay, using the original switch on gearbox then patch that into the existing loom to the bulbs. Be easier than trying to find the break.

No power at Reverse Light Fuse? #18?

Fuse #18 (reverse lights) shares its power source with fuses 6/11/17 also the 2 relays on the fuse box (Tail & Illumination Relay/Rear Defogger Relay). Have you got power on them at the fuse box?

Just double checked and power to all fuse, even when not in rev.....???

Fuse will always be live. The switch takes power to bulbs, Now check at switch?

Edit: Should be power at inhibitor switch (White wire, black stripe is feed from reverse fuse)

Re-reading post, If you have put 12v straight onto your reverse lights plug and got nothing then it must be the reverse light earth?

How are you measuring power? is you volt meter all working correctly?

all i have is a test light/probe and my trusty ol\' analogue volt meter, im not very electrical you see, spanners thats a different story ...

If you have power at the fuse, ignition on, power at \'White wire black stripe\' at inhibitor switch?

Ok, Select reverse, should now have power at \'Black wire white stripe\' at inhibitor switch? No=switch dead. ???

The reverse switch on the earlier gearboxes 89-93 were problematic, let oil into the unit, a quick fix is to remove the switch, push the ball back in and spray brake clean up inside the unit, then while holding ball in tip so ball is down, a mix of oil and brake clean wil come out, repeat until just brake clean comes out, check using multimeter ( set on Ohms/continuance) if working then re install

if your car is wagon than check the wiring loom where tailgate and body are bolted. remove rubber boot enough to view wiring. pull individual wires and see which one comes out.

its quite common on the wagons.

Used to be, old man had none on his vx commo when he put a different rear trim thing on, and I recall the reverse light thing being a "huh, what do you know" for us. Might be like fog lights - if you have them, they must be functional, but no requirement to actually have them

Edit: Put yellow bulbs in your reverse lights and wire them to the indicators? Or red bulbs and wire to brake/park lights?

The light is still there so it doesnt fly... Rules may have changed as they do in NZ.
