Another motor or rebuild?

Hey guys, my mates 2003 GT legacy cam belt tensioner went south and the cam belt stripped, he replaced the cam belt and tensioner in the hopes nothing was hurt in the motor, but now its making horrible noises, guessing a bent valve or similar.

Im just after a bit of advice on what the best option is... 1)pull motor down and rebuild, or 2) buy 2nd hand motor.

Hes wanting to do this as cheaply as possible as he was planning on selling the car anyway, hes pretty mechanical and I\'ve done my fair share of tinkering, he can get a 2nd hand motor for $1800 with 90,000kms and a 1 year warranty.

I suspect a rebuild would need to be done by a garage, which means $$$$$. However an engine swap i think we could handle. Obviously the turbos, manifolds, alt etc would all need to be swapped over to the replacement motor and a gasket kit would be needed. How long would you expect it to take 3 semi mechanical men to swap out a motor?

Any advices would be appreciated.

Thanks

Lee

Do the 2nd hand engine swap out. Will have a bent valve or two...So around a 2k job to repair. Easy to do in a day...Well I can by myself.

Cool thanks for the advice, no special tools or tricks when it comes to swapping motors? Also any advice on where to get a decent gasket set for a good price?

maybe more for my own build as it sits now, i have some things in less than factory locations :P

perhaps the m6 thread to pull the clutch fork, input shaft, rangi\'d spanners made into ring spanners for my awkward placed 8-10AN fittings.

extra long 6mm bent punch for axle stub lock pin when car still has k frame.

bar for tensioning my remote alt.

cant think of many others right now

Yeah go second hand engine, just remember though that your mate probably wouldn\'t be in this mess if he didn\'t cheap it and serviced his car aye.

He did service it, he\'s a fussy guy, he did it himself and used genuine parts.

Umm ok if you say so, I was just assume it wasn\'t as you stated\'\' Hes wanting to do this as cheaply as possible\'\'

and how he replaced the cambelt \'\'and\'\' tensioners after it snapped.. so he broken a new cambelt after he installed one and bought all new tensioners and belt \'\'again\'\'?.. must be costing him a small fortune lol

Ok, so the cambelt stripped, the thinking was maybe it didnt damage the motor, he was told the quickest and cheapest way to test was to simply replace the cambelt and tensioner and see if it ran ok. turns out the motor was damaged :-(

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
