6speed swap problem!!!help cars halfway out the garage

I just put a 6speed in my gc8 using 5speed ckutch flywheel and clutch fork but now the slave wont bolt on if i put the slave rod all the way into the slave it may just bolt on but that means it will basiclly be trying to lift the clutch off the flywheel all tge time?

I thought u had use a 6mt flywheel and clutch for it to work properly

Pretty sure you will need the 6 speed clutch fork. From memory, the 5 speed one sits at the wrong angle (been aaaaaages since I did my conversion and back then I knew all the ins & outs of what was needed, what works & what doesnt etc, but I am old and forgetful these days!). Did you not get the 6 speed fork with the box?

Nope, 5 speed clutch and flywheel work fine - just need to use the 5 speed starter motor with it.

Correct u need 6 speed fork. Its bent different shape.

And you can use a 6 speed starter if you want or 5.

Cheers guys i ended up pulling the box back to the end of the studs and swaping the forks.. my mate wanted to cut down the slave push rod but i thort i should do it properly . Best to use 6 speed starter? Anyone else struggle to get the 6speed on the engine and in the tunnel. Not much room ae haha!

ive only ever done it with the engine out lucky me by the sounds.

im guessing your man handling it from axle stands? even more fun!

Yea man 1 of which wasnt even holding the car just me and a mate but he.s not mechanicly minded at all just good company haha was definitely bit scary at times haha

Ok so ive come across another problem the bottom starter motor bolt hole doesnt line up with any holes on the block and theres no thread in it for a stud??

you can only use 1 bolt . what you have is a gearbox thats meant to mate to a 8 bolt block not the early 4 bolt .

every one weve done has been fine with one

what you do is (before you start) tap your gearbox housing to accept a larger bolt

and that thread then secures the starter to the gearbox

Yea i will do that funky just gotta get someone with a helicoil or tap to come round .. rex leggy do you not tap it and put one in like funky??

I didnt the starter motor didnt fall out or twist and do nasty things . in a perfect world you idealy secure it at 2 points like funky said

Oh so i have to use the 5speed starter when i use 5speed clutch .just grind away a bit of the starter to get it to fit?

You only have to grind away a bit if your using 5 speed starter with 6 speed clutch

It works!! And its got 1 of those gfb short shifters . Accedentally down shifted to 2nd instead of 4th revved its fricken tits off hopefully engines algood
