Issues aligning engine with bellhousing :/

I'm having issues getting the engine to join with the bell housing... Gearbox is jacked up, clutch aligned, fork and release bearing is set in the back position. Can't get it past the bottom bolts. They go into the bottom bell housing holes but not enough to get a nut on them. Have tried multiple angles and shaking the engine/turning the crank and just can't seem to get it aligned.Can bolt the top up but the bottom simply won't budge. Getting quite frustrated as I can't really see any reason for it. It clears the mount and I feel as if there's nothing I've missed.. WTF???

Any Ideas or tips on ways to make this easier?

Have a 30 min drinking session and try again. That or getting the wife to lend a hand normally does it.

Haha. Going to have another go tomorrow. Dam annoying was thinking it would be pretty straight forward. Got a few little tips from the net will test them out at the same time

I usually jam a block of wood (usually the handle of an old hammer) between the sump and the crossmember to give a better angle on the engine if you're doing it with the engine on the car. I also only use the bottom two studs to align and bolt up the box, lifting the rear with the jack or by hand, and only worrying about the top bolts once it's in place. Otherwise I found I always ended up having a fight with the box similar to the one you're having.

Double check the clutch alignment too.

is it the same box and engine you pulled out ? or have you replaced one ? check that you dont have dowels in both . eg there is dowels in the box and the engine

Haha nah wasn't dowels or anything like that just had issues getting it aligned. Dropped it in today first try in about 10mins I had it bolt in... Ruddy cars
