06 Legacy BP5 front half shaft removal

Hey guys,

For the life of me I cannot get the spline of the outer CV to come apart from the hub...

I've removed the outer 32mm locking nut.

Have tried 2 methods of removing the half shaft;

1. disconnecting the strut from the hub to allow the hub to rotate forward to allow the outer CV to be removed, and

2. disconnecting the hub from the lower ball joint in order to remove the inner CV first from the gearbox.

Both occasions not being able to get the spline of the outer CV to let go...

What am I missing? Never had this problem with my STI, that removed with no difficulty.

Have tried spraying both sides of the outer CV with lube to see if that helps, no luck.

Any advise/help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Just seized up. Have you tried a really big hammer with a block of wood on the end of the axle?

Front hub removal covered in here:

http://clubsub.org.nz/forum/showthread.php?44019-Wheel-Hub-Bearing-Change

Tie rod end off.

Lower balljoint free.

Axle removed from GB end.

Lower balljoint back on.

Smack end of axle with wood/hammer.

Sometimes you're just ****ed, I hit my rear one so hard with a sledge that it split the 4x2 I had against the axle, then when I gave the stub the message directly I gave it so much welly that it mushroomed the end of the stub to the point it wouldn't have slid through the spline anyway. I was very unimpressed with my 3 wheeled Legacy at that stage - in the end I replaced the entire hub + half-shaft and both CVs with a wrecker item (then swore a LOT when the hub was noisy)

You can remove the whole assembly and press it but talking to my mechanic mate half the time the pressure required by that stage is so huge that you bugger the hub/carrier/everything.

I think their benchmark was 3 real good hits with a sledge then they just replaced the lot.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
