DCCD Noises

Hi

Just wondering if someone can tell me if this is normal.

Have accidentally knocked the thumbwheel for the dccd forward a coupe of times and found there to be alot of noises / clunking under the car.

Also tried it just 1 stage forward in the rain and found under hard acceleration it would spin the rears as normal but only briefly but then you can fell a shudder as the drive transfers , not really a noise but just a shudder like a heavy clutch engaging under load.

Does all this sound normal or is my paranoia correct and theres something wrong??

It is normal to hear a bit of driveline groan when doing tight low speed turns with a lot of diff lock. As for the shudder, you will probably get that launching it, but I don't think you should get that on the move. The centre diff contains an electromagnetic clutch, so that is what is engaging. If you aren't launching the car when it is shuddering, then perhaps it is just getting a bit worn.

Haha, nzkaos has an easy fix. I don't think I've ever had shudders or crunches on the move in a straight line. Probably just getting a bit tired. I'm sure Subaru can rebuild them if you are worried about it.

I dont think I wana know the price to do that :o , will stick with wheel spin as it runs fine normally.

there was a DCCD guide on here somewhere about using it.

Pretty much -

Dry tarseal/daily use - Open

Dry- agressive use - 1-2 clicks foward

Wet - 1-2 clicks foward

Wet agressive - 3-4 clicks foward

Thrashing car/Gravel/Snow etc etc - all way foward and hang on.

This is only a guide, and wont be bad if you use outside of this. Just make sure its open for the long distance cruises, and dont wrap it around a tree when running around in full open.

If your really worried, you can get DCCD controllers that can set it automatically.

If tyres are not exactly same brand/pressure/worn-ness - the diff can bang and thump, even in a straight line, and makes steering heavy.

Turning corners on dry tar with think in lock makes one helluva noise.

You know its bad when even the subaru manual mentions that making noises is normal.

Also - could those who dont have DCCD, have never had DCCD, and possibly never been in a DCCD car, please refrain from spouting sheit about stuff they dont know about/unrelated crap?

  • 2 weeks later...

my diffs make one hell of a racket, even in a straight line, reverse turning, forward turning slow monuvering, i think its more from the rear diff but im not sure, after 4 years it still makes me wonder if it's fcuked or not but it's still going strong.

Just one question i have is when the diff is set to FREE on grasskanas events it soley sends ALL power to the rear, if a apply a little brake it'll sit there all day like a rear wheel drive, would it be damaging any thing apart from the dirt thats getting torn up lol?

Sorry for the hijack.

Hah sharktale, I'm not surprised your diffs make noise. I'm fairly sure a DCCD diff is never fully open. Have a look at the chart that comes up at 0:29 in this vid

. Holding the brakes on and doing burnouts must be wearing the centre diff and wearing your rear brake pads to some degree.

I'v done that brake thing may be twice, and sound of the diffs have been there since 31k when i broght it and it's now done 97 odd k the sounds hav'nt gotten any worse but they hav'nt gotten ant quiter either lol, i'v add friction modifier to the rear but it's still the same, im not worried about it, but every time the miss takes it out she always comments on it being noisey at times. pifff lol

Im not sure it is doing damage because it does exactly as it's intended like this, and theres a few others out there.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
