Where to get car checked out in Christchurch?

Wanting to get a car I am looking at buying mechanically checked out in Christchurch. As I am up in Auckland I don't really know who is good down there?

Armstrong Subaru is the equivalent of Winger's up here in Auckland right? Are they any good?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't rate them, I bought my first wrx from them and the service record was piss poor IMO over a 4 yr period as originally they told me for warranty they had to service my car... Found out later on that I could use other certified mechanics also.

They missed out obvious things which were signed off as had been completed, personally Tony at RDL performance will be able to do a good check over. Only guy I trust working on my subbi hence why

um i took my bighorn to a place in sydenham.....canterbury car inspections or something.

Older guy but knew his stuff gave it the full leakdown and compression test, and did a full mech and cosmetic check over.

cost $140 i think and i was happy with the money spent. For that kinda cash AA were not as thorough imo.

Cheers for that guys

WXRER would RDL not be a little over the top, judging by their website they have a lot of rally car's and stuff.

Now I just have to find out from the owner where exactly he gets his work done and go somewhere else but there :P

My pick is either RDL or Stubaru's, they are both small businesses which means they rely on quality work, not quantity of work.

RDL isnt over the top, i would be happier to take my car to a place that has definitely knows their stuff and does proper work, rather than somewhere that only does mundane everyday servicing all the time.

Mike sounds like a goer also ;)

Rdl is a small buisness, but he works on everything there u see mini's, rvr's, ol subbi run around hacks he does everything and anything. It's just that also he can specialise in rally/track cars too, lots of guys on here get their work done there be it from a wheel alignment to trying to pass a wof haha

Stubaru also is very good, I would admit if I couldn't get Tony to do the work I'd go there also.

I've always found AA good at pre purchase inspections. Mainly because they have a set inspection that they do every day and their reporting is excellent. I have had a pre purchase done at a workshop in town (won;t mention names but is a respected subaru mechanic) and he missed leaking valve cover gaskets. He was good enough to fix them for me when I brought it to his attention.

Other good thing about AA is if you pay for it they will not talk to the owner about the report, so no collaboration.

Our personal experience with Armstrong in Wellington and Christchurch was crap to put it nicely. This is our opinion, but was formed over not having our car for over TWO MONTHS while they couldnt figure out what was wrong with it! Long story short, they never fixed it, and had a total lack of knowledge.

I ended up fixing the problem myself after talking to a couple of people that had experience. I adjusted the TPS by 0.06v and it resolved more than one issue with that small adjustment. IMO they are very poor, and after sales service was such the typical not our problem line. It took a lot of convincing with lawful words to get them moving.

To this day they still have not, nor will not return our mechanical warranty record or give us a report on what was done to the car in writing. They took advantage of our mechanical warranty to the point the insurance people are suspicious of claims of that vehicle now, and it should have been THEM paying for their non-good car they sold.

OPINION: They dont give a crap except if you are paying them money.

Your not the first one to say that...

I remember helping a bloke out who's car had been there for about 3 months

Found the problem after 5min of looking and comparing to my car

and while doing this (on council metered parking on side of road I mite add), some dipsh!t salesman from there has ago at us...

Have had other issues with them since, far as I am concerned the local Subaru dealership is poor compared to what the previous dealer used to be...

I would much rather go to Autotech, RDL or Stubaru for servicing

Oh and would not buy a car from them

also found armstrong had shit service and charge way over the top, they tried charging me $800 for an AFM for my legacy wagon, ridiculously expensive i thought. I've had a bit of stuff done from a guy at cv specialists, found them pretty good, but yes also heard stubaru very good, think illl be going to them next.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
