impreza hx20 spring upgrade question

Guest

Recommended Posts

ok so I'm pretty much a complete n00b when it comes to subarus so don't laugh.

I'm looking for a cheap spring upgrade for my impreza and I've found some springs out of a '97 STI, will this change the ride height and stiffness at all? or would it be a waste of time? bare in mind that i'm a tight ass and won't fork out lots of money, these are like $50.

thanks!

IMO change the whole strut - the stock HX stuff is useless. (Not a jab - I have an HX20s and DO NOT miss the old suspension).

The springs will lower it and give it more stiffness to a degree yes, but the proper shock for them is a lot stiffer too. If you get early GC8 STi suspension complete, it will be a handsome upgrade :) The version 5 and 6 STi stuff is inverted - stiff as hell, fantastic stuff...but IIRC has a reputation for misbehaving occasionally and demanding attention.

I have ver3 STi stuff in the rear of mine, and STi Showa gymkhana struts in the front (if you care about your back, don't get these). Definitely better than bothering with springs. :)

the word on the street is that if you upgrade your shocks and springs to STi spec, your car will actually be able to keep up with an STi!!!

Quit trolling buddy...

I would recommend upgrading the entire spring/shock assembly (strut) to STi gear, you risk a mismatched spring and strut (read, bouncy, uncomfortable ride) if you upgrade only the springs. We have done this with great success in the past, it lowers the car about 30mm also.

Im trying to have a serious conversation here, mr Wiretap.

There is no need for insults.

There were a couple of examples of HX20s being upgraded and supposedly keeping up with STis in gymkhanas going around.

Given the Gymkhana doesn't really make use of the car's power so much as its handling, a proper suspension setup and a good driver could certainly level the playing field...

Seen Mates that have "been there done that"

Save your money a bit longer and do it properly, in the long run it will be better for you and your wallet...

When modifying a car it is best to live by the mantra: DIODIR, that is Do It Once, Do It Right.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
