225/40 R17

Guest

Recommended Posts

hey team..

iv got 215/40 17 in the RS at this stage. wheels are 17x7. Just wondering if i will be okay to fit 225/40 17's.

Two reasons,

1. i want to get rid of the chinese brand kingstar on at the moment

2. to lessen the gap between wheel and guards. i had put in dobisport low's but the car never really went that low.

Thanks is advance.

With changing to a 225/40 you are only going to lessen the gap by 4mm (tyre is 8mm taller overall).

Plus a 225 would perform better on a 7.5" or 8" than a 7".

I say stick with a 215/40

Running 215/40 R17 on my wagon at the moment. Will probably go back to a 45 profile because i keep thinking these ones are flat.

Considered going to a 225/45 but theyre just harder to find so didnt bother, plus i was told the 7" rim is a bit too small for them

are you sure you will have enough room for the tyre to not hit the strut? as my legacy was like 3mm off hitting and they always stung me at wof time.

cheers for the help guys....

.... there seems to be a lot of room between my wheels and even the strut.....

thats the link for firenza tyres.... shows 225/40 17's there.... dont know how good it will be....will give them a call next working day.

just a question...why is 225/45 not good for 17x7 rims ? is it just too large ?

McPhail....inspires confidence LOL

Ive also wondered why you shouldnt fit 225's onto a 7inch rim. If the tire is too wide for the rim then im assuming you wouldnt get all of the width in contact with the road? Totally guessing

From Car Bibles

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html

Too wide or too narrow - does it make a difference?

Given all the information above, you ought to know one last thing.

A rim that is too narrow in relation to the tyre width will allow the tyre to distort excessively sideways under fast cornering. On the other hand, unduly wide rims on an ordinary car tend to give rather a harsh ride because the sidewalls have not got enough curvature to make them flex over bumps and potholes. That's why there is a range of rim sizes for each tyre size in my Rimwidthulator above. Put a 185/65R14 tyre on a rim narrower than 5inches or wider than 6.5inches and suffer the consequences.

I love that guys site, have spent many happy hours reading through it.

His calculator also shows 215 as the widest you should go on a 7inch rim.

cheers for that.....i guess 215/40's stay..... will definately change the brand thou.

Go 215/45R17 on a 17x7 rim, 40 series is just too low a profile...and there should be plenty to choose from, factory size for thousands of cars...

cheers team...

really need to get rid of the kingstars on them now and set them on fire.

I misread as that ;D And thoroughly agree.

Even a Toyo T1-R would be an excellent upgrade, and nice and cheap at that :)

Depends on the car, driver and road.

45-series is more comfortable.

40-series more responsive but harsher.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
