yeah thats what im meaning hte watercooled ones...

I got told yesterday autos dont have them??]\

Some models musnt have them as there is 2 or 3 pipe water pumps depending on if it has one of these.

So just wondering if theres any others that dont come with them

anything manual and turbo should have come with one, except the spec c's, they have a air to air oil cooler.

They're not crappy either by the way, they actually bring the oil temp up if it is too cold, running oil too cold doesn't burn all the contaminants out of it, can be bad for longevity.

Are you trying to find one for your rebuild?

They're about $300 retail for a new one.

I've got a V7 Sti one I'm willing to part with at the right price, came from an engine that didn't run a bearing, so its got no bearing material in it

Water has a really good capacity to remove heat and as long as the water flow is sized appropriately for the oil flow then there's no reason that they'd overheat. And as Stoffa mentioned, they regulate the oil temp rather than try to cool it right down to ambient. They may need additional help once you start making heaps more power than factory but I'd keep mine and use it in conjunction with an air-to-air cooler unless I went completely overboard on an oiling system.

When it comes to GT's and such, BF, BG, BH. MOST auto's (like 90%) don't have them. MOST (like 99%) manuals do.

No idea really. I've seen a few auto's with em, but generally they didn't get them. No idea what's what for the impreza's.

the very first of the GT's with autos got them, up to about 90/91 maybe upto BF/BC5 c rev, my old BF5A had one

Would you guys recommend going to an air to air oil cooler on a v7 sti for track days? Or do you think the water cooled factory items are adequate?

I would recomend at least an oil temp gauge, try it out with that and just keep an eye on things, its not a race day just a track day, so if it starts to get too hot just bring it in.

It will end up cost a bit to set one up properly. You dont want to cut corners on something that your entire engine oil flow through.

the turbo manual models have the oil cooler between the oil filter and block. these models are the ones that use a 3 pipe water pump due to the extra oil cooler pipe.

Auto turbo models were not factory fitted with these (but people have retro fitted them or replaced theirs with a turbo engine when it blew etc)

some GDB sti models and most Spec c models had the air to air oil cooler which is a pretty cool looking setup. these also have a thermostat in the side of them and route to the oil cooler which is a standalone item in front of the radiator

ahhh yes, those ones, i keep forgetting about them. are they a cooler or more of a regulator, coz they will warm cold oil as well as try to cool hot oil :D

Does my v7 sti have an air-to-air oil cooler? there is a funny shaped thing that is a loop in front of the radiator. Does that cool the oil or power steering or transmission?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
