Bilstein problem

hey guys i just chucked in set of Bilsteins in to my 95 gt but b4 putting them in i checked to see it they were leaking and i even pushed them down to see if it would go down easy and with a lot of force it went down a back up slowly. str8 after i fit em i took it for a ride. The next morning i noticed that even on a smooth as road its real bumpy and also can hear a knocking/rubbing sound from the rears...when hopping on the rear bumper i can hear/feel that its not moving smoothly kinda feels like the body is dry but still stiff az.....

HELP PLEASE

this is a common problem for bilsteins, they will need rebuilding/replacing

Contact Suspension Tech in Auckland to get them rebuilt. They do a good job

Insider trick, raise car and clean exposed strut shafts ( chrome part of shock )

Then grease the shaft with a nice moly grease, this fixes the seizing issue they have due to to dirt build up in the top bush

just get a Molebdenim grease ( used for CV's ) avaiable at ripco and supercrap

Yea the fronts of the original bilsteins in my bg5 did this and now all 4 of the pink sti struts I put in only a couple of months back have pretty much seized. I'm gonna give this a go in the weekend, will let u know how it goes.

nb: haven't tried it myself but sounds a bit more in-depth than raising and poking grease at it (my most likely 1st attempt fix if i ever get motivated)

im lost now...if i remove the 14mm at the bottom, where is the gas/oil?? and will it leak?

No it won't leak. The gas and oil is in the thick bit at the top. The shock is upside down. The "shock body" is an extra sleeve so to speak.

Hey did anyone every try the more involved re-greasing method linked above?

My left rear blistein seems to be 'sticking', notice it most when stopping and taking off at light etc.

yep I get the old dock dock dock noise sometimes.......may have to regrease as well

I meant it feels like the shock is 'sticking' then when settles makes a clunking noise. If I push down on that corner of car can feel its not moving smoothly.

Maybe its fucked, but figure I'll give the re-greasing a go since its cheap. Just wondered if anyone had actually done it with success.

ahh i have new shocks in my ute and one of them makes a strange sound now and then, then when you said sticking i thought, hey i may have that issue, wounder what it sounds like lol.

yeah my left rear sticks like yours rico. Its like you brake gently and the shock extends, then it dosent settle with the rest of them till you take ooff again. Will try the fix this weekend.
