  1. Latest project, get this little beast up and running for a full Windows based carPC setup.

  2. Picked up a dashcam for the Wagon. Went with the Blackview DR590w. I'm pretty happy with the quality of everything, I haven't looked at any of the footage yet. I'll probably hide the wiring under the dash this weekend.

  3. I doubt that is 22mm, not even the sti has that in the rear, 19mm off the top of my head would sound more accurate. The 22mm whiteline has adjustable preset mounting points which effectively make the bar stiffer or softer depending on which mounting hole you use, if you wanted to futureproof you could go for an adjustable 24mm bar, I think it’s 1mm up or down for a three hole setup. Adjustable endlinks are a must

  4. Headunit will be far better than you think those JVC units are underrated. Speakers and mounting will make the biggest difference. Speaker brand depends on music taste. The more effort on the things below can make $50 speakers sound better than $500 speakers on not installed properly. sound deadening is good and for the price @Omsin got it well worth doing. The noise is resonating bass form the door cavity. Makes a difference to exhaust drone as well. Won’t help you if you have a pitch stop mount that is too hard though. Things to do with install: buy and some jaycar closed cell foam to the outer door skin to stop reflections even if you do doors fully in dynamat like stuff. Speaker cones are thin and sound does also go through them. Newer cars have foam rings around the speakers to seal them to the plastic door trim so no bass leaks where you can’t hear it. Speaker mount maybe as be as big as 6.5” and the newer plastic is sometimes better. Ie 2007 up speakers are in carbon fibre reinforced. Not woven pretty but mixed into the plastic. I cut the factory speakers out and screwed new 6.5” infinity coaxial speakers in. Sounds pretty good but have underwear sub as well now If you dynamat cut strips (or foam) to put between speakers and mounting plates as well to squash down and airtight seal things.

  5. So my gf thinks I spend too much time on the car and she gave me an ultimatum... her or the car... at first I was skeptical, I thought I might have needed a bigger sunroof! But she went out without a problem 😏 If you find yourself in the same predicament I think the button is in the same general area, somewhere under the steering column labeled “ejecto seat”

  7. I bought a 2008 Legacy GT wagon in manual a couple of days ago. Its an import and I purchased it in Dunedin. It has 52500kms and drove quite well. I polished it today and got a true idea of exactly what i bought. Its got a strong motor and box, the only thing that ive noticed is missing is the steel plate with the engine/transmission/paint codes. Hope I haven't bought a chop shop car lol.

  8. Yeah after reading a little more about it that does sound like a better solution. I'll probably pick one up in the future, cheers for the recommendation.

  9. I’ve used both. The higher cost one is far better. It’s 1-2mm or white heavy rubber/tar then foam. One sheet will do. Other option put cheap foam on top of leftover dynamat

  10. Car: 2008 BP5 Legacy 2L turbo manual Tuned: Not as far as i can see. Fuel: 95RON from wherever gaspy tells me is cheapest. Fuel Economy: 8-9L/100km on highways Up to 10-11L/100km around town. Second post because my 2007 auto GT got flooded in the West Coast storm in late March and its taken me this long to find another clean GT to replace it with.

  11. Nice, 1 or 2 channel? What option did you go with for power? One of the battery packs or the power magic switch module? The option to view low quality vids in the app is bloody handy to keep transfer time down when just wanting a quick gander. Loving my one so far.

  12. Do the Transmission tunnel if you love pulling up carpet Front wheel wells are curved and rubber mat so maybe skip those. But just in front of doors is open and hollow. Ie where the wires to the doors go through

  13. Car itself is bloody tidy, bit of a shame to rally it but hey the mrs hasnt noticed so far Tyres are 215/65/r16 , raised the height nearly an inch after i got the tyres swapped 😮

  14. Yes jaycar stuff is closed cell foam so no water gets held in it. Also mount it so the top slopes so water runs off the top edge. I cut the foam back on the top edge at 45 degrees as well to it has even less chance of water staying there.

  15. Quick note, make sure whatever you stick in the doors doesn't absorb moisture, a lot of water gets in between the internal and external door skin

  16. Most of the noise comes from the floor / wheel wells, but dampening the doors does give the speakers more punch as less energy is wasted resonating / vibrating the crappy sheet metal. I did my doors and noticed a good increase in sound from the speakers, it has however highlighted just how much noise comes from the floor / tyres tho. I have a 2011 WRX with the premium sound system, may be a different story for older base models with paper speakers. If you want the best bang for buck then middle of the road speakers with new wiring and an amplifier should set you on the right path, running speakers off just the head unit does not even come close to reaching the potential of most speakers. Sound deadening can be done for $140 on all doors and a days labor

  17. Whiteline adjustable sway bars are good for dialing in the balance of understeer / oversteer. i got 22mm front and rear on my WRX sedan, I found the best setting was hard front (two holes) and hard rear (three holes), off the top of my head it effectively made the front 22.5mm and the rear 23mm I think. On stock springs this setup was great, progressive oversteer and could feel the car hook right when the car transitioned it’s weight from left to right and vice versa. lowering the car on coilovers didn’t do as much as the sway bar kit, I actually had to adjust the dampening (softer) to get more feel out of the car. Stock suspension was soft as hell but seemed to work great with upgraded sway bars. i imagine a heavier forester would be the same but more dramatically improved

  18. http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/STi8IntercoolerOntoMY00Classic Here is the link I went off. I researched it all and purchased all the parts but never got to fitting the set up in the car. This should give you pretty clear instructions.

  19. Some faults cause the car to go into sport mode - happened when I had CEL due to a fault with a secondary air pump on my 07 STI. That or they went for a joy ride, I’ve seen some interesting stuff on my dash cam from workshop techs going for a “test drive”. high resistance could be signs of a bad connection, corrosion, loose plug. Shorts are usually very low resistance / blown unit

  20. Well so far one upsell has been put forward lol. Apparently my fuel filter is dirty, now what I caught them.out on was that he said it could be changed and he hasn't pulled the pump yet.....

  21. Once you get a turbo car with an aftermarket intake or blow off valve, driving conservatively gets thrown out the window and it’s replaced with all sorts of good noises

  22. Car manufacturers go for small displacement with turbo now so to make their vehicles more efficient, as opposed to using a bigger engine to make sure that it is still powerful/torquey enough when fully loaded with passengers, fuel, crap in the back etc. This is because the cars now have more electronic devices, airbags/safety equipment which all add weight as safety and emissions testing is much more strict than what it was 20+ years ago. Based on how much they spent on R&D to come to that conclusion, I'm going to say small displacement with turbo is more fuel efficient than larger displacement... That being said, there are more things to take into account - can small displacement turbo be run safely on 91, which is generally 15-25c cheaper per litre? and how you drive is also to be considered as previously mentioned here. And really you may save in fuel consumption, but the average joe or joanne will not like to do regular oil changes with the expensive oil needed for turbo applications, and there is the added complexity of the turbo - more **** to go wrong. So as a v1 WRX owner, I'd say if you were after consuming less fuel and by extension money I'd go for NA. I get about 8.8km/l with majority of those kms being spent on hilly backroads. Around town is terrible. Also those quoted km/l figures of new cars are grossly exaggerated imo take them with a pinch of salt, they must've drove like robots to get those figures. I've driven a 3-4 year old Corolla rental 6spd and got worse fuel economy than my 28 year old 2L NA MR2, both driven in similar ways and on similar roads.

  23. Usually jap imports are Km/L and NZ new are L/100Km If you're committed to cautious, smooth driving they can be efficient but most people just mash the noise maker and still go everywhere slowly but do so whilst using twice as much fuel as they could be using.

  24. My 2.5 turbo uses 10.9l/km around town average and 13l/km open road.

  25. Some meters actually show km p/ L instead of L p/km my ex gf had a 2L legacy NA manual which was usually very efficient AND extremely slow 😛

  26. Dam that’s high fuel consumption for a NA. MY 2.5 turbo legacy uses 12.5 when I drive it hard around town but usually 11. NA really sucking fuel there

  27. Come on, there is no reason why an MX5 could not whoop a WRX's behind at an autox... it's entirely dependent on the layout and the hair dresser behind the wheel.
