  1. With the lighter wheels it should make steering lighter and more responsive anyway. I weighed a wheel and it's 9Kg which pretty light for an OEM 18x8.5 wheel. Had a mate weigh a 5 spoke wheel and it weighed 12.4Kg (both weighed using a bathroom scale). Agreed, however, the bigger brakes is probably the only 'form over function' thing I'm doing which will only be noticed by some people and get them to wonder if anything else been done to the car.
  2. there's about 7 pages of results for 18x8.5 some with pics aye https://www.clubsub.org.nz/forum/index.php?/search/&q=18x8.5&quick=1 OK not a Bugeye but yeah look ok
  3. Hey everyone I've been in the market for new rims for a LONG while now. My Bugeye still has these awful and ugly 17x7.5 rims since I got the car and I just haven't upgraded yet for various reasons. I decided to go 18x8 as I like the 18 inch look. I'm after a nice concave (not insanely concave), with the smaller spoke design. Kudos Tokyo are my favourite wheel as an example of the style I like. Anyway, I have not upgraded as I: 1. Can't seem to find a wheel I want in the right size, width, offset, stud pattern and color. 2. Am a bit stuck on how big I can go, in regards to rubbing, clearance, etc etc. So, I was wondering if I can go 18x8.5 on a Bugeye without modding, or with minimal modding? I'm on stock ride height currently. Also, I've been adverse to going TOO big or TOO wide because I kept hearing about performance loss due to heavier rims/tyres and a greater rotating mass. How much of a performance difference would 18x8.5 be compared to 17x7.5? Cheers!
  4. Was looking at getting some shocks and springs for my car and found some bilstein shocks and lowering springs from a BP5 and he was running 18x8.5 215/40 will I run into any issues if I put them on a BL5 running 18x9 225/40
  5. New wheels are on, 18x8.5s. Will be painting them matte black. Have car booked in tomorrow for front 3m tint, and taillights getting a light tint. Blacking out basically everything. Will be making up a custom mesh front grille when I get time.
  6. 225 on a 9.5" rim yeah that ain't ideal You'd get better road handling out of a 18x8 or 18x8.5 wheel if you're chasing ultimate cornering, 9.5 is unnecessarily wide, even better would be 17x8 as that'll fit over stock wrx brakes, reduce a heap of weight + lower the gearing. Obviously won't look as sicKo though.

  8. I am pretty sure the black CR-Kais (18x8.5) that I had on my wrecked BR9 were wrapped in 245/40/18s, looked nice and meaty.
  9. Problem with 5th gens is the guard size to brake size ratio. I have 19x8.5" currently and the brakes look tiny. Don't really see myself forking out $1500+ for Brembos. Think I'll look at 18x8 with 235/45 or 18x8.5 with 245/40
  10. You running 18x8.5? I'm looking at dropping down to 18" as they are much cheaper for tyres and offer more sidewall for rim protection etc
  11. 225/40 would be it I reckon, although good for comfort my 225/45s were to tall on my 18x8.5s
  12. From @Invisible‘s build thread 18x8.5+44
  13. You may find the rs wheels are forged and lightweight anyway, plus maybe wider. Same as sti has forged option with the BBS, something like 2.5 kg lighter per wheel for the same size over the 5 spoke on the v11. Better having 18x8.5 than 17x7 except for the price of tyres.
  14. And here's mine: 2005 3.0R, Rotiform INDTs in 18x8.5 with 225/45/18 on Bilstein and 'low' springs.
  15. Oh well, 18x8.5 seems to be okay, even if I have to roll the guards its not a biggie.
  16. Have 18x8.5 +44 on my 04 wagon, have no issues. Got the guards rolled as a precaution as I was told I might have rubbage but it's nowhere near. Also have 215s on there but am waiting for them to wear out so I can go 225. To much stretch for my liking. Running Tein Super Streets.
  17. Ra-r runs 18x8.5 +53 No evidence of any guard work, but I also don't know how it compares to a normal sedan.
  18. Crappppp. I am looking at going 18x8.5 on STi struts and Pink springs on my wagon and what I had been looking up it was looking I could get away with that, ah well.
  19. Said "sayonara" to her PS: if you ever see a set of 18x8.5 Work Kiwami's at wreckers - don't get them, they're a toast.
  20. @JGM has 18x8.5 30p on his - ask him The ones I am looking at now are 18x9.5 25p
  21. The wheels are probably farked from going over the curb... 18x8.5 Kiwamis
  22. Bigger as in taller, or wider? Taller, doubt many people would as it'll mess with stuff with even a minor size increase over the largest wheel which was available at 215/45/18. Wider, every man and his dog does it. Can easily go 225/40/18 on 18x8 rims for zero issues with most reasonable offsets or get 235/40/18 and 18x8.5 with mid 40's offset and only some added rear camber needed to get no noticeable rub. You're in Tauranga correct?
  23. Yeah thats what i used. Going to a 18x8.5 with a +35 offset, this will move 5.3mm further away from the strut, with my current clearances and going to a 245 tyre i should be able to maintain enough clearance between the strut and the inside of the tyre. Does this sound about right?
  24. Done! Sitting on BC Golds, Pretty safe 18x8.5 Rota PWR's over 4pot/2pot stoppers and Lgt bumpstops. Nothing excessive, just nice!
  25. According to one of the online wheel calcs, running a 245 40 R18 on a 18x8.5 the wheel will sit 14.7mm closer to the strut in comparison to a 225 45 R17 on a 17x7.5 rim, however using a 25mm spacer will solve that problem. I roughly worked out the wheel should sit 48-49mm further out than the factory wheel arch, does this sound right?
