vf22 turbo v7 wrx

i have a 2002 v7 wrx and was thinking to get a vf22 turbo would it boltright on? and also would i need anything? and are vf22 rebuildable?

What sort of performance increase would you get with vf22?

No they're not rebuildable, trust me..3 turbos later!!

MSE rebuilds them apparantly.

IHI turbos are balanced and sealed at the factory. No-one can service them. Garrett turbos can have the CHRA replaced as a complete unit if they wear out, but the inside components can't be rebuilt individually. Only Mitsubishi turbos can be rebuilt from parts.

I've never been convinced by the VF22, as it's a bit laggy and it doesn't actually flow all that much. A modern TD05 with a 16G or 18G compressor would do better.

And there is a guy in tauranga who can rebuild them also. I know this for a fact as mine has been rebuilt through him.

the 22 is not too laggy tho for what it is.. with the right gearbox its a monster.. have driven a RA STI with the short gbox and vf22 and it was a very strong car all over the show

Steve definitely rebuilds IHI turbos

As to the latter i guess we will see soon how an 18g does

my 97 STI i used to own had a VF22 and it was agressive as hell, ppl wud say "how do you find the lag" and i'd say "what lag"

The VF22 on my BH is not as agressive as my old STI, that cud be the weight of the wagon but boy does it boogie into the high revs.

I put my vf28 against a vf22 the other day, the vf22 definately had alot more power throughout 3rd and 4th gear.

My 22's lag isn't noticeable whatsoever if you begin flooring it in 1st or second gear. If you're 'starting off' in third there's a tad bit of lag I've found, but I mean, 5th gear 100km/h down the motorway and you put your foot down you get boost instantly...so it's not as bad as it's made out to be surely.

Edit: and this is on a wrx with greys, not even an sti.
