Legacy vs Celica vs MR2 fuel economy.

I've sold my 94 Automatic Legacy GT Twin Turbo and I'm just wondering how a 91' Manual GT Four Celica (2L turbo 4wd) and 91' Manual MR2 GT (2L turbo rwd) would compare fuel wise? The legacy I found to be really hard on fuel (part my reason for selling it) would those other cars be any better?

I don't know for sure but I would expect the MR2 to be better fuel economy wise as it is smaller and being RWD, it should be the lightest of the lot.

I reckon the Celica would be pretty similar to the Legacy.

definitely the MR2 but just make sure you do your homework on the one you buy as they run big ends like hookers sell sex if you buy a dud ;D

Cheers guys. Run their big ends?! Shit I'll have to keep an eye out on that.

also if you haven't heard of the HFH or HFHOE... I'd google it :P

Will do. How would a VTEC H22A 2.2L Prelude compare to those cars for fuel?

that'd be better than probably all three. Personally, not as fun as a rwd turbo or a 4wd on gravel. But sufficiently quick, light and cheap to repair. Get a manual, they're more fuel efficient.

My mate had one of the 2.2L vtec preludes, it ate fuel like it had a hole in the gas tank, apparently

really? My friend tells the opposite story... he has 92 vtec. perhaps at the age of these vheciles it's down to how well its been serviced?

Mate's one was the later model one so I guess it has more power/weight...and he must've had a pretty heavy foot I guess haha

Honestly. I think this has probably been said before, but it's not what you drive, it's how you drive.

Very true.

I figured that was common knowledge!

The Prelude will be almost as thirsty as the rest of them if you're driving it hard... power costs fuel. The only way to make do with less power is to have a smaller and lighter car for the engine to push around.

Such as a Type R Integra! :P

I had one of these for about a year. Manual, of course. I was travelling about 140kms a day and used to get about 500kms out of a tank. Of course it all depends on how much you like to hear the VTEC singing up over the 4500rpm level, lol. Good luck finding one :)

mate of mine had a GT4 st185 and it was ok.

They are tough and are decently powered imo, but suffered from being a bit porky.

Fuel was meh but what do you expect with a 2 litre turbo 4wd?? You are in the wrong game if you are shooting for fuel efficiency.

MR2s......another mate owned a modded one and it went like stink...on a flat, straight, dry road.

Take it on an off camber, wet or winding road and it became a liability.

If you want reliability, grip and power go the celica. If you want turbo power and can put up with 2 seats go the mr2, if you want efficiency go the prelude.

  • 1 month later...

I had a NA SS-II Celica which i loved but it chewed petrol like it was going out of fashion, excellent mechanically but crap on gas. My current RSK-B4 Legacy has better fuel economy and im not joking!!!!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
