How about mushroom filters?

There doesn't seem to be alot on this form of filtration. I hear they really clean and efficient. Any one with experience they'd like to share?

i saw a review a number of years back that showed they were the best filter

The foam uni filters seem to be the best ie lowest microns and best air flow rate plus cost

Yeah.

I mean larger brands, new items. The type of stuff found at repco and named stores.

Not dodgy. (Dark alley way)

There'd be an out cry.

most companies do testing, i guess if they deem it to be ok they will sell it.

what they deem to be ok is i guess how much money they put into it and what they want back etc.

Long term, all aftermarket filters are crap.

Foam on average filters nearly the worst.

Seriously it was a constructive comment. In the short term, POD filters are fun. But if were talking a long term investment. Your much better off sticking to a paper filter as they really do a much better job. Id sacrifice one or 2kw for a cleaner intake and less dust eating its way past my piston rings and valve stems.

In the short term tho, its definately fun to hear lots of spooly whooshing turbo noises.

Another con is the way the figures are manipulated. Advertising may claim that you only lose less than 2% of oem filtering ability.

You thinks : Hey, losing 1.8% is nothing really, compared to that spine-ripping power boost I've always lusted for!

Alas, they typically reach that figure by subtracting 98% (new filtering ability) from 99.8% (stock filter). Do the math and you see that the overpriced "performance" garbage lets in 20 particles (of so many microns) in every 1000, while the stock 'grandma' filter only 2 out of 1000. Twenty versus two, that is ten time worse in my book. Depends how you look at it, really...

that's a confusingly worded post

do you also mean that all filters lose mostly some HP over OEM paper a few times?

having no filter, gains almost zero HP over what OEM Paper filter achieves...

Great link Qwerty. This says it all for me.

The max pressure drop in this test was seen at only 7.0 inches of water or 0.25 psi. The factory airbox and piping with no filter yielded a pressure drop of 5.0 inches of water or 0.18 psi. That means that the b]worst filter[/b] in this test only caused a pressure drop of 0.07 psi. In my opinion, this means that if you are picking an air filter based on performance, you probably aren't doing your car any favors.

Yeah ok basically.

There is a compromise between clean well filtered slow air and free flowing (not so clean) performance air.

I dont think the very small amount of hp increase is worth risking motor damage that would intern lower that hp gain back down to where it was before the after market free flow filter.

+1...

Unless your looking for big big numbers stick with the standard airbox an filter....

I've also seen on several occasions where foam shroom filters tend to shrink and cause up to 1.5mm gap around edge of plastic surround.

Then you may as well have no filter at all.

That happens to every foam filter exposed to high temps and also over age...

Factory for the win really...

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
