I'm gonna be in chch next week adn am going to be taking a 2litre sti sedan for a drive and want to know peoples opinions about the difference between the 2.0 and 2.5 litre engined cars?

2.0 is semi forged, 2.5 is not.

Unless your keen to modify the 2.5 I'd stick to the 2.0.

semi forged ??? not keen on modifying any car we get really. maybe an exhaust and an engine reflash at some point to liberate a few horses but not planning on turning it into a 400whp street racer. have read a few reviews and seems to be the common thought that the 2ltr is more rev happy ;D

id gues its because the internals are lighter or something? lighter rotating assembly ???

I have 2.5 v10 sti and runs really well they are semi forged dont rev as hard but lot less lag then the 2l and pull way better on the hills.

Im looking at an exhaust and some crossworth internals with 450 kw at wheels. the modern engines don't like straight pipe exhausts with out tunes they go lean go bang. but if tuned right they are great . but really depends what u are going to do with it though. the 2l is fully forged but the 2.5l is semi. The 2.5 is better cruising car and more fun in the hills.

but thats my opinion and you shuld test them both back to back and see which one suits you better for what you want. 8)

We also have a v10 sti 2.5 (nz new), and agree its great on the hills. We don't intend to use this car on the track, its our cruising car and we just love it. We went from a v8 wrx v ltd to this (so even though it was the wrx v ltd (and not the sti) it was still the 2.0l, and we have noticed a huge difference on long runs. We have taken it down south as far as christchurch and up north as far as Tauranga and it was a pleasure to drive.

Go 2.5 STI better drivability day to day with extra torque lower down which is usable and makes a better road car. If you have no intention of doing big mods it would be a better choice as a daily driver.

2.5 Sti engines are not semi forged...

I have proof as 2 of my pistons have holes in them!

2.0 is safer if your going to be beating it!

What exact models are you going to try ?

MY05 (unofficial v10) ?

MY11 (latest model ?)

The 2.5 export models were built to meet emissions and noise regulations.

The 2.5L is noticeably less torquey and not as rev happy as the JDM 2.0L engines.

However, a 2.5 is going to be NZ new so should have a full service history.

I havent driven a wrx sti 2.5 but i have driven two sg9 forester stis with 2.5s. Much torqueyer than my gdb 2.0 litre and more responsive. kinda wish i got a 2.5 now

The car in chch as far as I can remember is an '03 v8 sti, ideally i'd like to get an '08 sti spec r, not a huge fan of the hatch shape but like the interior etc, there's a guy here in dunners with one and he's made it look mean! Due to finances though we'll be restricted to a v8/9 sti, if we found a v10 at the right place then who knows?

V9 is the sweet spot in the GD-series.

V11 is a POS, the interior design and build quality is far below the GDs.

But if you must have one, wait until later this year when they get replaced, I predict prices will plummet.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
