rebuild or upgrade

starting to have secound thoughts on the condition off my turbo.last nyt my mate followed me home and he told me when i give it abit of shit its seems to smoke quite abit.(black smoke)

engine has been rebuilt but turbo hasnt been touched as far as iknow.when i removed my downpipe i had a quick look too see and it seemed fine.just a little bit black thats all.

so idrather not let my turbo fuck out.its a vf23.

Black smoke is usually fine.. Probably just a bit rich on boost and WOT... Which is typical of a factory ecu.

You would expect it black in the turbine housing just as long as its not wet with oil.

Blue smoke is what to watch out for usually being bad.

A little white smoke on cold start is normal too

ohk nah its defintly black smoke.my mate doesnt know much about cars he just said once you give it shit it smoke a lil bit black. inside the compresor housing was sweet /clean as.but the exhaust housing side was quite black

It sounds pretty normal,trick is not to crank the boost up to much. but if your going to choose between a rebuild and an Upgrade, I vote upgrade. theres nothing better than rolling into a shop and buying a Brand New Turbo. "take it easy for 1000km to run it in". yeah rite.

Chuck some upper engine cleaner through it, you'll see smoke then

Or bad valve stem seals Black smoke can be a oil burning as well. Have the checked it for error codes just incase its running rich for a reason?
