the clutch is part of the engine assembly so seams a bit strange to me .

as for price thats not to bad but a month to do it is a bit over the top haha.

ask him if the has taken the pin out to let the engine separate from the gearbox (hex key on passengers side of bellhousing) lol. sounds like he doesn't work on subarus alot.

hahaha yep the pins still in! ;D unless the spigot /input shaft had seized on the spigot bearing and wont easily pull free? if it is which you dont really hear of happening but anythins possible, then the whole bearing would be trapped inside behind the clutch plate spline and may need a bit of work to get that spiggot shaft free from the bearing, but not 5-$700 worth!

....just put the shits up him to get the truth out by asking him to tell you exactly what happend cause theres alot of people on clubsubaru that would love to know. At that price he's probly fucked the gearbox and has to replace it lol

maybe he want's to make some money after all, He's not going to work for free aye. $1000.00 for a (Good Quality) clutch replacement kit, sounds almost retail price to me.

& i'f he's had it for a month - do you know if he's been busy, how much has he removed or started,

those (drip feed) cash job's are not quick jobs at a busy workshops too, i'd leave them till the weekend or when their isn't much to do.... but still a Month sounds like a while for a mechanic though should have been done by now? maybe he had no idea what a subaru clutch kit cost due to being pull type ;D Cost alot more that than ya everyday rpm toyota, nissan, mitsi kits ect :)

& when he say's the clutch is stuck to the G/box does sound very much like the clutch fork pin behind that 10mm hex key plug,

I am not ashamed to say that when i did my manual conversion swap it was the first subaru manual G/box i'd tried to seperate & i ended up removing the engine & g/box in one as i didn't know what the pin was that was holding the box onto the engine, until it was all out & on the ground infront of me, then i got an understanding of how it worked, was kinda different to what i'd thought it looked like aye :)

Not being rude - but get the whole story !

Cash jobs (cheapies) are put as urgent

There is a possibility that the clutch plate assembly has rusted to the input shaft due to lack of use and damp enviroment (maybe)

Or the gearbox is stuck on the locating dowels - very common

99.99999% of mechanics know all about the subaru clutch fork pin - so doubt that

I'd do it but not interested on a job someone else has pulled 1/2 apart

Retail on decent new clutch is $1000 - $1200 fitted

I find getting together with local members and learning about the car is almost an essential part of Subaru ownership, otherwise it's gonna cost heaps to keep it running. :)

There is plenty of help in the Welli area to assist you dude.

They aren't expensive to fix - just need to find a decent shop

Just too many people know very little about the systems (electrics esp) - and they consume time to fix

As for engine and gearbox related failures - 99% are caused by poorly done or poorly supported modifications - or shear abuse by the muppet behind the wheel !

My mechanic charged me $100 labour with me supplying the parts. I would of thought that $300 labour would be on the expensive side. With the proper tools and a hoist (and knowing what they were doing) should only take them around 2 hours. Average mechanic would charge $60-80.

Would love to watch someone do a clutch all by there own in 2 hrs - Not possible if you do a FULL clutch job

I quote 4hrs min, which allows lee way for seized turbo studs/nuts,rear main and/or kidney plate reseal, cleaning of entire bellhousing and my time to take flywheel for machining etc

Sorry, did not take into account flywheel machining. Mine wasn't done at the time as it wasnt nessesary.

I'm assuming all other elements were done. I supplied the parts, dropped the car off and two hours later I picked it up.

Usually the case.. Way easier for 2 or 3 guys to lift the box out and back in

(all that time adds up )

But YES your shop did you a MAGIC deal !

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
