STI Brembo brake kit conversion problem?

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I own a JDM V7 hatchback STI, it equiped with original subaru brakes, I just want to know if it is possible to install the brembo brakes from V8 onwards. What kind of problem I may have when I instll them? I dont want to waste my money to buy something that does not fit into my ride. Thanks for any help.

Everything should bolt straight on. The fronts definately will, and unless the V7 STI wagons did not have R180 rear ends (which I am pretty sure they do), the rears will too.

Only thing you may need to change would be your wheels if they do not clear the larger front calipers...

Give me your email and ill send you a template and let me know if they match up. If they do i can get you a kit made up.

Pretty sure my ones fit the brembos.

My email address is xtremeprof at gmail dot com, thanks.

I think you might have trouble with the disc rotor size. With factory 2 pot rears the disc size is smaller then the brembo setup. At least that was the case on my sti coupe. If thats the case you'll need the backing plates aswell to accept the larger disc's for the brembo's

Well, I like the brembo big calipers, so if i decide to install brembo calipers, i'll change the rotors obviously. The factory ones are too small. Thanks for the advices guys. Does any1 know how much would I cost for the swap?

BTW, my rotor size for front is 24 x 294 mm, rear is 10 x 260 mm. I think they are same as V7 WRX Wagon, so are the calipers. Do I need an adapter to support the brembo caliper?

I've checked the other forum, some1 said if I have the single pot caliper at the back, and want to upgrade to Brembo, then I have to basically change everything at the back, if that is the case, I think i'd better leave the brakes as where they are. sigh! :-\

if you have a 10x260 rar disc then it's a single pot caliper setup

doesnt seem right though, those v7 sti wagons are supposed to have two pots on the rear arent they? have you actually measured/looked at your setup or are you assuming?

The fronts will bolt straight on, providing you have the disc's that come with the front brembo calipers 28mmx330mm (28mm is the minimum thickness).

As for the rears, i'll have to do some measurements on mine and get back to ya.

What kind of rear brake setup do you have? Or whats the chassis number, i can run it through the system and that'll tell me exactly what rear setup you have. R180 etc

You can swap the backs over mate. I use a v7 rear disc on mine with an adaptor to run the two pot caliper. The subaru and brembo calipers use the same points.

Just need to remove the backing plate which is only spot welded on and your away.

Im wrong with it, did search, mine should be 4 pots front, 2 pots rear. The rear caliper is shown in pic below.

Does that make the conversion easier? Whats gonne be the problem if i install V7, V8 or V9 brembo calipers? Thanks.

Should bolt on but if you have Sub calipers why put on brembos? Brembo started making the design subaru gave them so the brembos are actually pretty much newer models of the subaru calipers. i wouldnt even swap them unless you were going to a four pot rear.

Im totally a noob here, I thought the brembos are actually bigger than mine, are they the same as mine shown in pic?

They took our edit button away - AFAIK in reference to the other club thread.

Jesus, the Brembos are a buttload bigger.

Btw - aren't the advantages of them simply less chance of brake fade etc?

Brembo rears are a lot bigger; 316mm vs. the 266 or 290* of yours.

*Have you measured the diameter of your 2-pot rears ?

Different sources list different sizes.

:-\

Not really, I didnt measure it, thats why I asked if someone actually know it. I searched the web, the brembo calipers look the same as my subaru ones, but the rotor size. Hope someone can tell me if I can fit the rear brembo calipers in. As Ive been told the front caliper can be bolted on directly, all i need is a new rotor.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
