Reason to change V7 STI 6 speed to 5 speed?

Guest

Recommended Posts

this one was discussed before

its NOT a spec C

perhaps thrashed and hence changed to weaker 5 speed

no one normally wud swap a 6 for the 5 unless some good reason - thrashing comes to mind

if the owner is lying abt the spec c bit then what else is he/she lying abt ???

think abt that!

the front also looks changed so perhaps an accident repair job???

whats the model code?

see what turbo its got?

run thru a scanner and see what ecu its running (spec c ecus have its own code as do all different variotions on the v7 etc) - i always run any cars i buy/help buy thru the scanner so at least know some of the ecu's inputs on the matter lol

could easily be a dressed up wrx mate..

i once had a nz new wrx v7 and dressed it up to look like an sti

seats

dials

red intake

the lot ...lol except still had 5 speeds

(visually looked like a sti but was not)

anyway, very improtant to find out more on the specifics of the car ..especially if they lying abt the model then i wudnt trust much else they say..

things like - why the bonnet pins - i know of a mate who had a frontal and used bonnet pins to cllose bonnet as had a botch repair done - not saying this is for the v7 but just saying has to be reasons and justified

and whats with the track 5 speed - cars more serious than this still use the 6 speed so unsure why such a mild car wud need specific "track box" - unless somehow its a PPG dog box hhahah that wud be awsum

why is there no intake snorkel bit in the engine???

anyway there are way more track mods u can do first before slapping a downgraded 5 speed...

anyway, ask the questions and post back ok..

PS. it maybe a cheap deal but does not mean its good for it ..e.g. a thrashed car may show nice interior etc but thats all replaceable if u know what i mean...

PPS.

of the 2 spec c variations- have seen a mixture of both where had water spray and spray in boot

IMO the real spec c had boot mounted water spray. the prodrive model still had the spray under bonnet and the vf30 as opposed to the spec c vf34. the base spec c had 2 pots and manual windows etc but u cud option other things when the owner bought it new....

We checked out that White STI, looks very smart, body work is pretty much flawless.

The story is, the guy bought it as a write off, apparently only the bumper was broken but because it was a Prodrive bumper it costs a fortune. When he got it he put on the STI bumper with the C West lip. Also when he got it, it had a small bottom end noise that he ignored and got steadily worse until it was well fucked, he then put a 80000km STI motor into it.

The gearbox, he pulled out a perfectly good 6 speed and sold it, put the 5 speed in with the DCCD (but it doesn't have the DCCD controller) and flash front diff and 4.7 ratio. He seemed to think the 5 speed was better because of the ratios. He planned on putting a new gearset in later on. anyway 4th gear was grinding when changing up from 3rd, he himself even mentioned that it is probably due for a gear box blow and should probably change it. He works for a Subaru dismantlers so blowing boxes didnt really bother him too much.

I just couldnt believe it when he said he took out the perfectly good 6 speed and sold it...

Needless to say we didnt get that one. We bought a very nice stock blue 02 STI on gold Advans.

Thanks for your help everyone!

that other suby story just gets more and more dodgy sounding doesn't it ? written off because tie bumper cost too much ? to write a vehicle off the repairs need to add up to more than the vehicles value . . a bumper worth more than a whole car ? no way . . 4.7 ratio . . . huh ? pretty sure 4.44 is the highest ? sold a perfect 5 speed to put a 5 speed in ? a crock of you know what lol lol

even going off the over inflated 9k for the bumper . . a prodrive car is worth a lot more than 9k yeah ?

Unfortunate but nah not these days sadly

Price point is abt that of just over an Sti but perhaps it's just sad market eh

The prodrives do tend to fetch abit more (yeah not always but the majority of them are 16k ish for a nice one on trademe but then u do get the odd one like the on on hea for 12k but kms etc getn a tad up there tho. Lots of cheep v7 sti's on trademe but look at the prodrives...not so many cheep ones at all. Your always going to get the desperate guy wanting to cash up no matter what you own. The question is how many of the desperate ppl own prodrives so the chances of a cheep one are less. But agree with pappu sad market at the mo +5 lol. I am yet to see one got for 10k that hasnt been defaced like this one lol. and yes under 240,000kms lol :P

Real ones on t.m atm:

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
