exhaust system for legacy

hey all

i have a 99 gtb wagon. i am in search of a new exhaust system for the beast.

i am currently running a straight pipe from the y join out to the back of the car no muffler or resonator and only the cat from the first turbo its nice and loud and has a awesome cackle and backfire when decelerating. this was all good when i lived in the country but have now moved closer to town and dont want to piss any one off.

what sort of system is best for the performance of the tt wagons?

is there any benefit geting a 3" or stainless steel system or will i get the same results by just banging on a muffler to quieten her down a bit?

dont need 3", it just makes it way to loud, 2.5" will flow plenty enough..

2.5" all the way. Mandrel bent downpipes, after the Y join you could get away with normal bends because there aren't any sharp turns. Keeps the cost down. Chuck a big resonator in the middle somewhere and a decent muffler and you will be sweet.

you dont need adjustable suspension do ya ?

got a st siting in my garage they dont fit mine :-[ but will deff fit yours

Ive got a 2.5 " and with the resonator, it was way to quiet. Even with it removed, and an average muffler its quiet.....

yer depends what type of muffler you run.. and wheather you have de-catted it or not..

Rage do a good set up front and mid section.. then select a rear canon (or whatever) and your away laughing.

The TT's do seem to "throb" less the WRX's in my opinion so can get away with it being a little louder

With the twins they tend to be a bit quieter - mines a rage to the Y (no cats) , so yeah the muffler is the only thing to change for more rumble

btw - be careful if you do get a rage, mine had to be completely rebuilt to make it fit when it should have bolted straight on. The came to the party and did it for me, but was a hassle I didnt need.....

Thats to do with the mid sections in TTs being longer than in WRX's IIRC....

Hell, even the mid sections between a V3 and a V10 are different apparently (standard DP on a V10 is shorter. had to add about 10cm or so to my exhaust that came off a BG5 with v3 engine, when it went on my car which is BG5 with V10 headers/turbo/DP.)
