De-winging my sti

How hard is it to take off the rear wing of my v9?

Does anyone know where i can get a guide to do this?

should be a few bolts under the boot lid, just undo them, then unplug the wires going to the rear tail light on the wing and it should just come off

they you'll still need a high stop light (if its in the wing) in your rear window to remain legal

tip : there's always at least 1 more bolt if you think you have them all before you start pulling haha

If it's anything like the V7 (should be, same chassis) then there is 2 bolts on either side, and the plug for the light.

And yes as has already been said, you'll need a replacement high stop light in your rear window, easy enough to obtain from Repco etc, but you'll need to cut the plug off to wire into the car, or strip back some insulation and tap into the wiring.

don't forget to weld up the hole and smooth it out and repaint the boot

or just leave it on and save yourself the hassle and lowered re-sale value of your car and also avoid looking like a poverty spec model, or every other boy racer.

Just push the high stop up through the back seat and rear parcel tray.

Thanks for all the help, wat about buying a boot from another 05 impreza? say a non turbo, would that bolt right in?

When you open the boot without the wing, make sure noone is standing nearby, without the wing it flys up!

No difference to drive ability.

I noticed maybe a slight loss of stability braking from 150kmh+ with a v6 STI wing off but that might be in my head also.

The flying open boot is also sage advice.

yeah, i'd agree with that. its subtle but its there

Only something you'd notice on a track so for daily street driving, wouldn't make much difference at all

Yeah definetly not an issue for daily driving.

I noticed it coming down front straight at Manfield. At first I thought it was just in my head as I hadn't been out in a while and would go away as my confidence came back but I felt it all day. Take it for what its worth.

If it's anything like my ver8 then you should find it's pre-wired for a high stop lamp. There will be an unused plug in the boot mounted to the bottom of the parcel tray. Just buy a matching male end and wire it to the high stop you buy.
