High Pitched Noise from Wheel and Occasional Clunking Noise??

Recently my BH has started to make a few strange sounds, both only happen when the engine and car are really warm,

The first is a high pitched noise coming from the back left wheel which comes on when the car is warm

and sometimes turns off when I turn around a corner.

The other, is a clunking thuddding noise which has happened twice at the end of a long trip when I

turn the steering wheel until it locks and then drive. I can feel it through the steering wheel as well.

Any ideas? I thought it was a stone in the brake at first but it only comes on after a good half an hour?

I had also thought it could be one of the CVs or Centre Diff??

was just about to ask about a high pitch whine coming from the back ive been told two things its either the fuel pump or the diff ive had two bg5 legacys and they have both done it

Any idea why it would only do it when the car is warmed up rather than all the time?

Sounds like lower ball joints or CV for the steering clunk.

Almost definite on CV clunk, as for the back wheel, maybe some stone in the brakes, grease, or wheel bearing?

check your rear brake pads? probably two unrelated problems

Answer: Centre Diff, would not be betting money on a rear diff as all of it is going on the centre diff...

Clunking coming through the steering wheel could be a front shock, i have felt some nasties in the past

Drove back from Taupo to HB today and clunked as I turned into the driveway. Drove it two hours later to see if old man could help diagnose it but nothing happened :-\ was perfectly fine.

Centre Diff...

Take it to a Subaru Specialist that and describe to them whats happening...

mates one was doing the same and was also center diff - is it automatic by any chance??

the rear noise sounds like brake pads could be down to the wear strips (squeel tabs)

pull the wheel and look in side the caliper and you should be able to see how much meat is left on the pads

wheel bearings normally grind / droan more than a high pitch sound

Yea il take it up to Bayswater when im next in town. If its the centre diff, will that require a replacement one?

Shes a manual. Btw the high pitched noise has stopped, hasnt done it for a week now.
