whistling and slow bulid up to boost?

Hey guys !! im been surfing the net to try and find the anwser to my issue!! ive got a 96 GTB wagon ! ive converted it to single turbo running a vf22 siamese down pipe !! after i put the down pipe on i have a whistling noise every time i put my foot down i no it cant be the turbo because the tdo4 on it b4 use to make the same noise! its a bit slow on the pick up and im struggling to get 10 pound out of her!! its like its holding back hard. ive got a boost tap on there turning it up mkes no diffrence ? could it be a exhaust leak ? ive checked all he vacum lines and inlet pipes for leaks aswell. any advise would b great..

- Got a boost gauge to check the vac pressure on idle?

- Opened the bonnet, given it lots of revs and listened for where the noise is coming from? Could be a cracked intake pipe or exhaust leak like you suggested.

yup 3 plug sti ra ecu .. it sounds like its whistling more than it shuld be. wood a exhust leak cause tht??

Does is say what units it's in?

hey mate

are you running your factory air box or pod filter setup

some vf turbos do have a slight whistle to them.

sounds more like a leak from the intake side or around you blow off valve area.

engine bay pics would be better,

im running factory air box, i took the intercooler off yestdae and bov and cleaned and gooed it all up still have a the same prob . i replaced the intake pipe from the turbo to airbox so i no tthats no leaking , how can i find out if its a exhauust leak? ill post some pics up soon of my engine bay and the car chur.

my boost gauge is in psi

for vacuum its likely to be in in/hg.. which is inch / mercury.

can you confirm. .. what you dont have is -17/18 PSI at vacuum /idle

Does the whistle only sound when u tryin to boost or even off boost?

Re check all hose and clMps between turbo and intercooler and also the bov is seating correctly and not leaking

Swap the bov and see if mKes a difference

Did u tighten all exhaust downpipe and uppipe bolts tight and is the gaskets not leaking

U can get someone to rev engine and see if u can feel any hot gasses out the exhaust joints

I wud suspect some intercooler hose or Bov anyway

starts whislting as im driving like even when im not on boost?? and when i turn the car off i can here the turbo whinding down quite loud?? wood that be the start of a screwd turbo?? i hope not.. does anybody no anyone in the wgtn area that wood be keen to check out my car ?? im stumped as where to go from here .. what will a leaking uppipe do?? whats the symptoms ?? also could it be like that because of my siamese downpipe?? :-*

in your siamese downpipe did it have a divider that split the wastegate from the exhaust.. if it isnt the correct one or if you modified it maybe the partition/ is stopping the wastegate flap from opening?

im assuming it was working fine until you installed the downpipe

yeah it has a spliter in it .. the noise satred when i put the down pipe on .. myb ill put my facetory wun bak on and see if it makes a diffrence ..this prob is duin my head in i js want to boost propely damit... any body keen on a swap of a deal ??

im guessing your down pipe is like this?

i had no problem after i installed mine,and seems like the flap is opening fine.

with this down pipe you can actually here the internal flap start to open at around 2900rpm.

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me. Will make a loud shrieking every time you hit the go pedal and cause slow boost build up. Did you use new up-pipe and down-pipe gaskets?

Yup I agree, sounds like a leaking up pipe or up pipe join/gasket.

Same turbo and pipe as my gt, got problems with exhaust rubbing on steering shaft on l/h corners?
