Dangers of overfilling gearbox with oil

Whats the dangers of doing this? think i may have over filled a bit by 250mls or so

Stuff all, gearboxes are unpressurised, you might get some leaks later down the track but I would say its unlikely.

how did you get 4.25 liters in a gearbox ?

gearbox isnt goin to give 2 shits is the oil is 2 mm high is it ?

My (rather dodgy) technique for filling the gearbox was to fill till it overflowed. Never had any issues with that other than mess. And I only ever broke one gearbox and that was after a long period of abusing it.

If anything it will create more drag - less kw atw ( very small amount but that's realistically all that will happen - same as how different weights give more / less drag )

A little over fill is fine - its when it's so over full it pisses out drive shaft seal that you need to drain it lol lol

Cool bananas forgot to mention 6 speed! Great no dramas just overfilled a lil bit usually do with engine oil as well heard its good to stop starvation when goin round corners a cup full more is about it

I think he means when he's doing the engines oil aswell, not he usually does the gearbox with engine oil lol

All my subys I've allways over filled the engine by roughly 500ml and never had a issue from it

With gearboxes and diffs since they're splash lubricated (not pressurised) - I've allways gone along with over fill is better than under filled

I had a mate that over filled his engine with oil...

He filled it right up to the top of the filler cap....

Thought it was needed since he couldnt see it, but he was too impaciant to wait for me to help him.

Anyway he started it and oil went every where. It smoked so badly

Next min it ended up going to the scap yard. was a mazda capaller. Was almost mint.

i have experience that with some gearboxes it will pop out of gears if you overfill
