some specific wrx vs ra vs sti questions

Hey all

Had some questions about the V5 and 6 wrx.

most sites seem to suggest that by the V4 or at most the V5 the wrx was producing the full 280hp that the sti was rated at although the sti had a higher torque rating. What I was wondering is how this was done in terms of the turbo. I know the older v1-3 shape used a td04 turbo which gave nice quick spool but ran out of puff up top so I am wondering what was changed in the later model plain wrx to bring its power up to spec with the sti. My flatmate has a v5 WRX RA and it uses the same turbo as that years STI but what turbo would the stock WRX use and also is the suspension any different?

Basically wondering how much difference there is between the Version 5 or 6 wrx and the full STI model in terms of turbo and suspension (power delivery/handling)

they were like the jdm models i think. had vf28 vf24 turbos, sti injectors, sti tune etc but the difference was they had standard longblock (not forged like the sti equivalent) i think. just taking a guess

the V3/4 WRX manual sedan had a 280ps engine. after that i think the WRX output was decreased

from V3-V6, the Engine / ECU are shared between STI and STI RA variants. output wise they are the same.

RA in these models usually means no underbody seal, weight saving or deleted accessories, different spring rates, quick rack steering and close ratio DCCD transmission

V3/V4 STI RA / R where the first to get the bigger brake packages, then shared on later model STI

V5 or V6 STI RA LTD got a fancy front diff. that\'s about the biggest difference i can think of

Alloy panels are fiction. V2 STI and up all got an alloy bonnet.

basically, the V3/V4 WRX MT Sedans with VF22 are the best bang for buck. RA\'s are good if you like the close ratio transmission (and the "street cred"). RA Limiteds if you like your Aircon and other electrics

also be careful not to confuse NZDM with JDM.

didn\'t really answer your question. sorry ;p

Is the question more in terms of

Are there differences in shock/springs, are sway bars different, sti alloy arms etc wrx steel, factory strut brace sti - not on wrx? - what turbo hardware is used, what physical differences in the engine are there - that sort of thing?

Did I just answer half of my own clarification

(FWIW I don\'t know any of the answers I\'m just wading in before we get the usual sh1tfight of what model/special edition comes with what random combination of brakes / diffs / gear knobs / cupholders)

(also I only just realised what FWIW stands for)

v3 RA did not get bigger rear brakes, im almost dead certain neither did v3 R. only the 4pots up front with dicky single pot rears, but the R180 rear end still. I\'ve covered this else where before.

yeah the 4 pot setup I got for my wrx were 4/1 off a v3 type r

does the V5 and 6 wrx run the same turbo as the RA and STI models from those years?

Mine was td04 as per most are but do some come with vf22? Which is weird as it wasnt a option on v5/6 sti must of been using old parts up. All v5/6 have yellows though.

Ive seen a v5 or 6 ra non sti sedan with td04. On here .max

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
