manley v molnar v scat v eagle . for the same $ which would you choose

Recommended Posts

lookin at getting some rods and pistons for building an engine . the supplier has the following options for within $20 oh each other with the eagle being the cheapest and the molnar being 20 more .

engine is 2.35 and max of 280 kw . realistically less than that

EAGLE ROD:SUB WRX/1.8/2.0/2.2/2.5 (CRS5137S3D h beam 530 grams

SCAT H-BEAM ROD:SUB 5.138 (+WRX) (2-5138-2047-842-905) H beam 535 grams

MANLEY H-BEAM ROD:SUBARU EJ20/WRX (14024-4) H beam 535 grams

MOLNAR H-BEAM BILLET ROD:SUB 1.8/2.0/2.2/2.5 (SH5137MJB4A) H beam cant find weight

whats peoples opinions ? all will do the job ? but some real rods eg pauter or carillo ? or buy some I beams . dont think i need them for this power level tho

is there any possibility of wanting more power at a later stage ?

if there is even slightly then go i beam

Why bother with a 2.35 for 280kw?

because there sick . but for 280kw yea not much point bothering with a stroker.

or are you going to build a de-stroker

If i was going to build a forged block Id probably do a 2.2 for kicks, cost similar money with sick spool on the turbo Im going to run but really for 280kw atw why bother? A forged 2.0 with a 3071 should do it and perform well. Unless you want to build a spool monster like sultan/fo sho if thats the plan go golden ponyboy. What turbo/heads you planning on running?

Only a couple hundy between H and I isnt there? Id go I if I was building another new shortblock. Eagles in evos seem to handle another 100kw+ over EJ20\'s tho...

why not build one ? why even ask . ::)

seems everyone who has a 2.35 loves it and everyone else who sees it wants one

lookin at this site . seems almost 2 good to be true .

https://www.raceeng.com/p-17608-wiseco-pistons-piston-rod-kits.aspx

Damn thats cheap. Even cheaper than the kits that come with bearings around 1.5k nzd I thought that was cheapish. Good find.

V5/6 heads are softer than v3 with v4 sti being the best by memory. The sizes are documented on here somewhere by optical I think.

Obviously not an option if running p2 tho.

yeah like all their stuff seems a third cheaper than most . they had a good price on the 2.35 and noticed the rest . need to find the catch

i guess 200 us per rod and piston isnt unreasonable . if you buy enough bulk

by the heads being "softer" you mean in terms of ports/cams ? not physically ?

yeah people in the uk say they run nearly 500 hp up the v6 sti heads . obviously you believe everything you read on the net. . they are big port and shim under bucket so see what happens

yeah see you read s*** like this and even if you go +/- (ok only -) 30 % internet bs factor itll still put a smile on my face .

i got 2 old BSA pistons shipped from usa last week and it was only 50 for a big shoe box sized box so meh . used to get mtb forks which are rifle shape and weight for like $70

not real goals for engine

97.5 mm pistons

79 mm stroke

v6 sti heads

steve mucrh twin scroll

itll put a smile on my face for not much $$ but quite a bit of time

will be quite a long time in the build

kelford has this too but ut says they have ported the v4 heads . and they only pull 10cfm more than stock v6 sti ones . its not comparing apples with apples but oh well

If you want higher flowing heads from factory go 2002+ legacy tt heads, they are ported to a far greater extent than sti heads . I put them on my car and compared them side by side (v6 sti type ra limited heads and 2003 tt legacy heads) its easy to see the difference.

Yeah they might try ripping you on freight though. Some companies over there want horrendous money for bother all. I was looking at evo pistons and they were rrp 800ish but on sale for 600ish as opposed to 800ish with rods? Like wut?

Not worth going to avcs as well being that fbs has bolt on sets for 350 a pop? Avcs/twin scroll/displacement = max win. Wonder if theyre a lesser cam than the pre avcs sti.

Ballsrburning - is that rev c and d?

thats rev d bro

Rev d 02- and rev c -01 is it? Wouldnt be surprising if they did have smaller ports in sti. Similar to vr4 vs evo engines the intake ports like 2/3 the size on the evo.

Ballsrburning - you take any pics?

I was talking out of my ass before, I went back and had a look. The specific type I bought were 2001 gtb ej20tt heads there is a point they changed and I can\'t remember what I looked for as i just went off my mechanics instructions.

Only pics I took are of them ported sorry on my build page. SO don\'t have pics of them side by side. I don\'t really know why I got them ported they were big enough.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
