What size rubber to use??

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, iv just bought some 17" wheels for my V4 coupe. Now iv been to four diff tire shops and there all telling me different stuff ??? with sizes. So what do you guys reckon??

will be fitting superlows also so the concern is guard rub

205/40/17 or 215/45/17

Iv been told that the 205 is the way to go as the 215 will rub, but also another guy reckoned he had 205's on his sti and said that he lost alot of speed??? and then went with the 215's that they were sweet? all these guys are from tire shops so shouldn't they all have the same answer lol im so confused i dont want to fork out $800 and get the wrong ones

Cheers

A- None of the above.

215/40-17 is closest in overall diameter to the factory 205/50-16.

If you get guard rub with 215, the equivalent 205 would be a 205/45-17.

Whether that is the best size is also dependent on your 17" wheels (width ? offset ?).

Some useful calculators here;

http://marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/tires.html

Deviate too far from the original rolling diameter and you change the gearing and speedo accuracy.

205/40-17 will effectively lower your gearing resulting in better acceleration but lower top speed.

Id go with the 205, less rubbing, i hate rubbing...

depending on the make & strength of your rims the 205 could be bad, the 215 have more sidewall to not buckle rims in pot holes etc

The rims are Enkei NT30s, 17'' 7.5 wide and a 50+ offset i think

yeah im totally confused on the hole deal now lol, I cant put the springs in until I have put rubber on the new rims because the factory tires are too big so i dont know where the car is going to sit, if i go to 215/45/17 and i roll the guards before hand would i get any rub? because i do want to go with the bigger tire.

ooh really? I think its the angle of the dangle, not the gurth of the burth?.. (i cant remember the rest of that saying lol).

Long and thin goes too far in, short and thick does the trick.

I run 215/40 on my type R and get no rubbing.

That's pretty close to stock Subaru 16 and 17 STI wheels, both +53 offset.

With 7.5" 205 will be stretched out so stick with a 215/40-17; 40 will be closer to std rolling diameter and feel sharper than a 45-series.

Do you really need super lows ?

Do you really need super lows ?

well with my wagon i had it was on superlows and 17s (cant remember what type of rubber tho) and I really liked it,

never had a problem with rubbing or scraping and it handled mint and looked good. That is the main reason for the superlows, i also think that with 17s it fills the wheel arch nicely

one day i will buy coilovers but iv got a few things im guna do first

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
