R160 differences?

Hi all, this could end up being a stupid question, but what are the differences between subaru R160 diffs? Are they different legacy to wrx? And are axles diffrerent at all?

Not too fussed about ratios, just need some info for a project. Cheers!

Only difference is manual/auto use different RH Rear axle. Otherwise Impreza/Legacy all the same.

There are some plate diffs from RA\'s, I\'m unsure if their inner cv\'s interchange with any of the viscous LSD versions?

Didn\'t some of them have the wee short stub\'s with female inner cv\'s and others had male inner cv\'s?

Not from my experience... there are quite a few variants with incompatible inner axle stubs.

Right so... in gc and bg legacy stuff the viscous and plated diffs use the same axle stubs.

The early rs type diffs are a male stub on the diff side afaik. But once you get into r160 female diffs all the ones ive seen are the same

There are differences... I had to modify some v6 axle stubs to fit a v4 core... the only difference was in the circlips... but still

an important difference.

the v2 sti ra, v3 sti and v7 wrx diffs / axles ive seen / used were all the same.

I have come across this same issue before as well. Had to get a new circlip groove cut into one to get it to fit as the circlip wasn\'t in the right location to do its job. Have no idea what the mix of parts were from, just bits off the parts shelf but all R160 stuff.

So would an auto diff fit manual axles? I dont care about ratios because rwd

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but the project is back on and I need a bit more information (again!).

I've got 2 R160 diffs, one is a plate LSD diff I bought years ago (legacy i think? the one with the stub axles), the other is a diff from a gc8. I want to use the LSD, but with my existing gc8 axles etc.

Heres a couple of picture of the diffs:

Can I remove those stubs and run my standard gc8 axles with that diff? I'm changing ratios so is it possible that I could take the LSD head out and put it in to the gc8 housing and make a bastard child out of the two?

Not sure how interchangeable everything is, if at all.

Just pull it to bits and see which inner cv's fit it if you're having the lsd unit swapped between the final drive ratios.

No worries, will strip them down and have a look, really need to use gc8 ales so will see what I can come up with.
