Real bad knocking

Recommended Posts

if its knocking loudly from inside the motor that can only be metal on metal bits. ive looked inside several, only metal i promise. it wont just be gerbals with marrakas inside your motor starting a party at your expense either. rly... i promise this too.

history tells me where thats happening things dont last very long and is not how the factory designed it ... so il say it again..

driving it or turning it on is a REALLY dumb idea.

also it just occured to me that if my chance there were gerbals with marrakas and one of those marrakas did come apart and find its way around your motor this also would also be a very poor outcome for the overall health of your motor (and the gerbal for that matter). those beads inside them are many in number..

Funkytown, forget about the gerbals for a minute... he\'s talking about his motor, not your arse...

If the noise is coming and going ie not continuous, it could be the hydraulic tappets with airlocks in them/worn? Not sure - but maybe replacing o ring in oil pump may fix this?

Had an 86 Leone Ea82 that did this from 150K km didn\'t do anything/worry about it until l found out what it was. Also thought it was going to self destruct - happened after l changed oil for 1st time after purchase 2nd hand @ 150K kms, perhaps that was a hint but added some special additive. but still clattered away ocassionally from time to time, couldn\'t be bothered replacing them. lt ran fine for another 14 years and to 360K km and was still fine then when l gave it to my neighbour 2009, until a teenager finished it off :\'(

Go do some full boost pulls down the motorway. It helps if you repeatedly try to hook 6th, especially if you have a 5MT. This will assist in diagnosing the issue - if it\'s a big end or a valve, it will destroy the motor completely and you will know for sure that the motor is ruined, hence the issue will be diagnosed.

A clonky BEB means oh darn I need a rebuild but I can still re-use the reasonably pricey subaru heads etc and maybe most of the motor is entirely good still and I can get away with a minimum of money to do this

Continuing to drive it means oh maybe I\'ll munt the thing badly enough a rebuild isn\'t possible and nothing can be salvaged, if part A welds to part B and then sends bits of motor out the exhaust you might be lucky enough to munch the turbo too

Hell if you\'re real lucky it might even seize bad enough to lock the wheels up and send you into something at speed, or just chew up part of the gearbox etc

It\'s not an "all is lost" scenario - it\'s by no means a good thing but it\'s not the end of the world either depending just how much damage has been done

edit - yeah same as what evowrx already said

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
