Gearbox diff or clucth or something

So I broke my GTB, Took off in it rather spiritedly today, it made a loud bang and now it wont move, clutch didnt slip still feels the same, but you put it into gear and release the clutch and literally nothing happens no movement no noises whatsoever in all gears.

Anyone experienced a breakage like this, not sure what to do about it. My friends say sell it, but I\'m kinda attached.

either is going to be a cv, clutch or you\'ve lost some cogs

just slipping the clutch to take off faster, hope its not the clutch its a new excedy heavy duty that\'s just worn in. I don\'t think its any co-incidence that it broke a day after I had it down at nightwars, the launches from the drags cant of helped.

I was slipping he clutch to get moving then went to dump the last of it, then a bang then just nothing, no other noises, feels like the car goes into gear can feel the gates on the shifter, but no movement whatsoever.

Just went and looked at the car again, as this happend last night, can hear a wine when the clutch pedal is released and its in gear, sounds like something spinning .

Well one way or the other the gearbox is coming off

If you\'re really curious then jack it up with all 4 off the ground, put in gear and see if any wheels move just in case it\'s a dead axle/cv - though they tend to drive like a slipping clutch not a complete loss of drive.

Either clutch has gone phut in some way or form, or going by the whine you\'ve broken something terminal ish in the gearbox which has killed drive outright

Sounds like when my 4th gear disappeared. Selector would go into 4th no problem but nobody home. Gearbox can be had for $250 early STI and a Saturday avo on your driveway with a jack will have it swapped over so idk why they would say sell it. Theyre either to lazy to help or drive for another marque.

If clutch pedal feels/acts perfectly normal then Id say gearbox has taken a walk.

Odd it still selects gears.. does it try and drive in any gear? Ususally a split cog jams the box.

Test axles like marky said.. and drop the gearbox oil to see if its chunky

It tries to move in every gear but sorta just rocks on the spot, As far as time I got it down the strip in 14.90, It was my first time going, but I think thats not a bad time for the old girl considering its factory besides the clutch.

Vid of the whining noise? Any smells?

can probably suss a vid out tomorrow, no smells, no smoke, feels like the gbox is working as noise gets faster in each gear. and it wont select without the clutch .

Major gearbox failure (mainshaft)? or centre diff failure? all housed in gearbox

Have a look underneath carefully (ie chock wheels) with it running in gear to see if rear drive shaft turning.

Sounds like I\'ll need a new gbox, will my current clutch work on a wrx gbox , keen on lower ratios but my clutch is near new and it was expensive... So I want to keep it

When you try to move in gear does the speedo still work?

As long as the final drive ratio is the same as the diff youre good to go. Everything else will bolt up fine. Less bolts on pre V5 boxes than latter but still bolt up fine.

Would the wining noise be from F or R diff, whichever is dealing with the broken CV?

You would be correct sir, just got my mate to try move it while I watched the outputs for the front wheel can just see one inner c.v spinning in place
