open block really that bad

Hi

I was down at innotech Subaru getting some ideas around my rebuild, the fulla was fairly flaming about using my v2 sti block, he said that it would drop gaskets all the time with increased power due to it not being closed. surely its not that weak is it? he is pushing me towards the idea of a v7 block but it would be so much cheaper to keep my own block.

Cheers

 We are borg']

Ur v2 sti should be fully closed so ur engine builder doesnt know wtf hes talking about.

Open deck is ok for moderate power increases

Unless of course his V2 STI is not a STI ? or the engine has been changed

yea still doesn\'t mean it still has the near 20 year old OEM motor in it because its hard to see from where I am sitting

O-deck vs closed Deck? depends what you are doing with it is the big question

22psi err\' day all dae? I wouldnt

22psi is no problem all day if its tuned correctly you can easily have a tune more dangerous at 10psi. Open can handle 220-230wkw as rods fly apart before h/g blows on pre V7 sti stuff. Not the best so if you want to push the envelope later as you have a block that would be hard to move on and no good to you either.

If innotech say its open its open and if theyre building the engine take their advice.

I was under the Impression v2 sti was open and only the v2 ra sti block was closed. maybe I am wrong. He also said that I had hydrolic lifters but unsure of that. He hasn\'t actually looked at engine.

Either way I am moving towards just getting a standard rebuild keeping orgial pistons and pushing boost up putting in bigger injectors and fel pump using either possm link or ebc and safc Orr similar

Its all up in the air till the engines apart anyway dude who knows what it is or if it even is original this many years on.

If it was me I would throw in a V7 sti shortie and V3/4 sti heads that should take you as far as you want to go on a possumlink and TD05 or similar anyway. Stock pistons are pretty borderline anyway if youre going bigger injectors.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
