Sound Proof removal

How much weight do you lose doing this on a 4door gc8 wrx? Is it in the doors and boot aswell? I really want to do this with dry ice once I pull my carpet, seats, plastics etc etc out, Does it help with handling and does it also sound really sweet :-\ Im up to page 6 of google search and cant find any detailed information, seems like most people are removing it so they can put heavier thicker sound proofing instead :P, sorta depresses me lol. Any info would be sweet, thanks

It\'s a few kg... 5 to 8 something like that. None in the doors... it\'s on the floor, the rear seats, parcel shelf and boot. It\'s a lot of work, and no you will not notice

any difference in handling or anything. It makes a big difference to the sound. You will hear the gearbox and rear diff whining constantly. You will hear every

stone hitting the underside of the car... you will need your stereo up really loud on the open road.

What\'s the cars use? Removed the stuff out of the 2nd racecar today and the Subaru sound mat seems very light and thin opposed to Nissan that I\'m used to. Wasn\'t a hell of a lot in there either. How far are you planning to go and for what cause is what you need to ask. In saying that, we fiddled with weight around Hampton at the last round and by carrying a 100kg passenger the times increased by 1.6 seconds a lap

car\'s use is just street. I have a ton of parts on cardboard sheets in my living room yet to be installed and a new engine gets delivered on monday. I will using this car for the track for sure in less than 6months and I was looking into steering, suspension and weight reduction now that Ill have a solid running gear. I\'ve never raced on a track or anything legal before so I really wana get her all nice before I do. ;)

Dont bother unless its going to be a race car primarily is my 2c too

The noise drives you fkn insane on a long trip. I stripped one of my vr4s, the road noise was noticeably worse and it also carried a heap of exhaust noise through to the cabin as well. Some people wont care but it was something I grew to regret, probably a bit worse on the mitsi since it had tons of the stuff being a "touring" / luxury / landbarge model I guess and pretty well insulated

Spend an hour a day out running and shave some weight off the ballast in the drivers seat haha

You can mitigate it a bit, theres an underside insulator you can spray on to rubberise the floor of the car... though its defeating the purpose a wee bit

gosh I love car sounds I really love them, but if its only sheeding like 8kg\'s then really its not worth the effort at all, when getting a rollcage installed I will need to shave certain areas of the sound proofing though true?

yes, there is tar where a lot of the main mounts points will be. It\'s worth removing all of it if you are getting a cage and will also be removing everything else...

just not worth it for a road car.

What this man said, I can tell you after removing mine and getting the cage installed.....Holy crap the roadnoise/exhaust is rediculously loud, IMO pointless for a road car and the only reason I did mine was turning my gc8 into a racecar.

I took mine out also because of the rollcage but im not looking forward to the noise . I dont like loud exhausts on the road ... cant stand the droan.

but now is going to be madness id say

You\'re not going to like it then, it\'s loud as holy hell, especially when combined with semi slicks.

Might be better off removing the aircon. About the same weight reduction, but much simpler, and most of that weight is carried forward of the front axle and presumably above the centre of gravity. It can also be undone (reinstalled) more easily. You also get a wee bit of thermal mass reduction in the engine bay.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
