Tidiest is solder and heatshrink, but if you currently twist and tape your wires I'm going to guess you can't solder either.

Crimp butt connectors are probably the next tidiest, they won't come apart if you crimp them properly.

my soldering iron has bitten the dust and dont wanna buy a new one just for this job. do i need special tools for crimps? i have a wire stripping kit, which may have a crimp pliers in it.

Yeah those wire stripping pliers usually have a crimping section that will do a reasonably good job.

Get the smallest crimp connectors that the wires will fit in - and remember that the power and ground are usually slightly larger wires

cheers boon, got a crimp tool, what are the round crimps called that you stick the wire in each end and crimp each side, the ones with rubber on the outside.

Proper term is a straight butt crimp. The red ones work well for headunit-sized wiring. Don't buy the Jaycar ones they suck balls.
