I wouldn't spray it, but get it powder coated. Spraying will most likely reduce the thermal efficiency, hence why APS powder coat their intercoolers.

If you get it done in black, you'll be forever touching it up because of the stone chips, IMO.

Two things, don't wanna be the geeky engineer but IC's only really work as heatsinks. hard driving puts heat into the IC then when your cruising between sprints it cools down. They don't really cool the air as you drive because the flow rate is too high to do much. Soooo painting, powdercoating etc would be ok, just don't get the powder coat too thick or it'll act as insulation.

And the second, if I was ever running a front mount IC I'd take the scoop off the bonnet for extra stealth ;)

Ah, but that's what you'd expect. I hope to get mine behind mesh grille in the limited's bumper, and paint it black. Getting a scoopless bonnet just makes it obvious you've gone front mount, it's not like they are going to think the car is an N/A. I don't want anyone to think the car is anything but a booring standard GTB with a fart can on the back. ;) (Not that it's anything but a booring old GTB at the moment though :()

How is powder coating a better option then paint? As I understand it is pretty much plastic that is melted on to the metal which is a way thicker medium then paint which could be sprayed on much thinner. The only gains of powder coating over paint is it is strong and resists chips.

Black colours absorb heat only when the heat source is hotter then the black what ever. Ever noticed how radiator heaters are usually black, well the older ones before infa red was the in thing.

I would anodize the core black. I read how to do this using a 12vdc supply and dye. worked best on cast aluminium better but still worked.

But I could be wrong..

How is a couple of layers of paint (a few micron?) on the front face only going to noticably affect the heat transfer of a core 50-75mm deep?

Like Ray said i spray paint mine. Doesnt matter weather its spray painted or not as its negliable on the thermal mass / gain etc. As long as cold air is in contact or passing over it powder coat or spray paint wont effect it. Matt black looks effective as people hardly know you have it on.

Ill put up a pic tonight. Its pretty stealth in black. The other side is ali colour so if i want to bling i flip it round but no point. Its steal factor that way.

would an electric fan on a fmic be an advantage? i saw one at meremere on a ute last nite. surely it would work better for low speeds and also cooling it alot more while its idling and taking off before the vehicle speed picks up enough for the airflow to work correctly though it? anyone tryed it? any gains?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
