Help! Need advice on more power!

Hi guys.

I've got a Subaru Impreza 2007 hatchback, ej204 however I'm wanting to give it some more power, any ideas ?? I was considering and engine swap but I am not sure what engine would suit or fit. Sorry I'm all new to this

Pretty much zero good bang for buck mods you can do to it. You could get it retuned for very minimal power gains anything else is pissing in the wind.

Your best option would be to flick it and buy an s-gt or sti if budget allows. To convert what you have legally would cost 6k odd so factor that in with selling what you have.

If you have won lotto and really really want to make your car fast tell us where you live and we can point you to someone reputeable.

So there would be no point pointing in another engine such as a wrx ?? Ej20?? Etc

You could do it, but it's a huge can of worms that would cost huge cans of

money and time... and then there's the red tape to make it all legal.

If you want an awesome car, sell yours and buy a 90's STi... spend

all the extra money on Caviar and Champagne.

Put politely it would be a bad economic decision.

Bad resaleable value, brakes and drivetrain below spec, to do it properly you need all engine bits from airbox to muffler. Gigantic pita dude.

wow, just looked at trademe and 2007 Imprezas aren't worth much at all... I doubt you'd have any change after buying

a decent 90s STi.

Save the cash, buy a decent base later

V7/V8 WRX's are coming down in price massively these days, you can keep the late-ish model aspect and even the wrx will crack 200wkw with minor normal mods

Plan the long game - all of us have been there with wanting to make something slow fast - it's a fools errand and the $$ you pour in will never, ever come back

I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say this is probably your first car?

As above, don't spend a cent on it. If you absolutely have to, get some Nolathane bushings, maybe a bigger rear swaybar if you can find one... minor handling mods to make it more fun to drive, don't worry about power because anything that will significantly increase it will cost a lot more than just selling your car and buying a WRX.

then yea not a heck of a lot of worth while mods to get more excitement out of your daily driver

Lower it? Nice wheels? things you can return to stock for resale value / stuff you don't have to cert or have the car off the road for 2 years to complete (things snowball quickly then you have a Trailer queen 4&R Show car....

It's actaully my 4th car, was just wanting something to do while in uni while I have the money before it all goes on junk haha, thanks for the advice however, might just slam it

buy a first gen legacy/wrx. They're cheap as chips, easy to mod for power, easy to play with/troubleshoot, provide a reasonable amount of resale value if kept in tidy condition and above all they're fantastically fun to drive even in stock form. You won't regret it if you want to learn these are the ones to go for.
