What to buy?!

Hi Everyone,

I'm in the market to buy a Wagon and have been recommended a Subaru by a friend.

As there are so many on the market at the moment I'd like to get some advice from 'experts' on which particular model would be best suited to me.

I require it for work and will be loading the boot with more than the average hatchback can handle but not heavy stuff. I will also be driving up to 40k per year on the highways so fuel economy will definitely help. And if it can get on the beach that would be a bonus!

Budget is around 8-10k.

I wouldn't be beaching that on a regular basis, and it'll be up for a grand of cambelt in 40k. But each to their own =P

A 3.0l is a WAY better option. I wouldn't buy a GT with 160000km on the clock then drive it 40000 km a year

I wouldn't buy a car from Turners... so maybe not that particular 3.0l.

I'd go with a facelift (July 2006+) 3.0 Outback.

40k of travel per year on highways and you need a big boot

I'd look at falcon/commodore sized stuff

Same economy and power and you get fatboy seating for extra comfort

Legacies aren't very big and with that sort of use you'll devalue the hell out of it in no time, subarus are not known for their resale value

Looks like I'll be heading to Auckland as there appears to be a load more to choose from than here in Wellington..

Any further advice on things to look out for/steer clear from, greatly appreciated..
