Exhaust Gasket question

When attaching any exhaust components, say uppipe to turbo, would you use a gasket sealer as well as the metal gasket? Or should the gasket seal well enough to not need any sealer?

Used all genuine gaskets when my up pipe and turbo came off and didn't use any gasket sealer, going OK so far after 10000km.

Never. Turbos dont like sealer going thro them. I always use genuine mls and tighten to 34nm. If I reuse them just go up .5nm each time. Once you get to 3-4 times replace.

Post turbo doesnt really matter.

Wouldn't put sealant around a turbo, area gets too hot for silicone really and maniseal if you have a proper gasket and the flanges aren't F***ed would be pointless. Just use a MLS gasket.

I think it stands for Multi-Layer Steel, those gaskets are supposed to be tougher and last longer.

yep, Multi layer Steel,

It's more that you get a better seal from multiple thin sheets of steel against each other than a single peice of metal.
Crushes better.

Not quite. They still have a crush ring so the exhaust gases shouldnt contact the layered steel.

Dont know tbh but they dont fall apart like the graphite ones seem too.
