Weird electrical issue with Headlight

Recommended Posts

One of my headlights does not work and long story short, the wire connecting to the bulb is short circuiting (dunno exactly where its shorting out) , how should I go about fixing this?

Its the large connector/wire you can see that plugs into the top bulb that we tested and it seems to be shorting.

My brother knows a bit of electric stuff and he says its shorting and the wires on the other light are not.

When I turn on my lights fully, the left headlight has the small light and the big light working but the right headlight has only the small light working where the big light should turn on as well... I got pulled up be a police coz my light was not working :(

I might be wrong, ill take a picture and post it.

depends how he diagnosed it i guess. if he done something like a continuity test from end to end on the wire then probably a fairly safe bet the wire is at fault. i would prefer to rule out connectors/switches/relays first before ripping out the wiring as from first glance it looks like could be ab it of a mission . anyway if you can trace that wire, try looking for obvious kinks as first step, there are many inbetween options to further get in to which section of the cable is at fault but will test your patience for sure :)

Are you sure it is not the bulb? Swap the bulbs between the sides to verify if it is the bulb or the power feed/ground.

You could try wiglying the wires to see if you can get the light to dip in and out indicating a poor ground or connection somewhere. Then if it is a wiring issue then trace the wiring and check for breaks, loose connections or poor grounds.

Remember if they are the HIDs they use a very high voltage so be sure key is off and maybe disconnect the battery if you are unsure before removing bulbs.

tested 3 different bulbs, no luck, wiggled the wiring a bit, lights dont dip but I do notice that when I turn the lights on, the lights flash once for some reason (as if the lights turn on real bright then go to normal but it looks like a quick flash).

The reason I ask is because in a car it's not really a thing that happens... if it "shorts" then it blows your headlight fuse. EDIT: These, I believe, have an independent fuse and relay for each headlight, checked those?

Just intrigued to know the diagnostic process that went into concluding that it's shorting.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
