Removing ABS

Whats the guts with removing ABS from my 92 SVX?

Plan is to turn to it into road legal race car.

Im guessing it will need a cert?

Do I need to upgrade master cylinder etc?

oohhh i was thinking bout this, bout removing mine.

BH5 leggy. . . is there a non ABS'd car i can get braklines off? or do i need to make my own?

also ill be running anti lag, so ill have no vacume to the break booster. . . i can get hold of a alternator off a diesal car(with a vacume pump on it) or is it possible to get a non vacume thingeed brake cylinder??

shouldnt need a cert however as u said u will need to change master cyl.

only issue u could get is maybe a few DTCs (fault codes) in relation to the missing ABS module and Missing sensor input. and also the ABS warning light will no go out if u remove the module. however the light wont go if it has no bulb haha

as smurff said maybe use a different vehicles brake components make life 10x easier

With the SVX you could be screwed as there was never a NON abs model that you can take the parts from but saying that the SVX parts are robbed from other models anyway so a legacy or impreza master cylinder may fit,

I would suggest you look into the regulations about it being certed as with the removal of it you are making the car "less" safe so should require certing,

I have an SVX ABS module here if you require one

Could you not run a vacuum reservoir that is isolated via one way valves ????

ABS removal does require cert and you have to prove that there are no ABS components left, that is if anyone asks, as said above if you put some factory non-abs parts in it may not be picked up. Would pay to get it certed if racing so as to pass scruitineering IMHO.

Can anyone dig out the thread old user "Loren" (spelling I forget how the male version is spelt) did on this exact thing? or was it pre' 2009 forum?

you have to convince the cert guy you have disabled/removed all traces of it and that the braking system is safe/effective with OEM components removed

iirc he swapped over brake-lines and had diagrams to prove his modifications

Epic bumping but I am keen to disable or lose my abs. Is there anyway of disabling it and then reenabling it for WOF. Only for track purposes obviously nothing illegal.

try pulling a fuse? (like in Die hard 3 I think)

or running a switch to said fuse etc

this or one of the plugs that goes into the ABS unit also safely disables it.

(to tell you the truth - ABS at the track is actually confidence inspiring).
