1994 RS Legacy General Help

DXROLLA

Recommended Posts

Hey im looking at buying a 1994 RS Legacy done around 170000km. It has a full exhaust from turbo everything else is standard. What i was wanting to know is what can these handle in terms of boost, when do things start to break and become more unreliable.

Looking at getting a boost controller but if you cant run much more boost than standard with out things breaking i dont think i will bother.

Also what suspension have you guys found that lowers the car nice and handles well, im not really wanting to go to adjusties yet as dont have to much to spend maybe some tein lowering springs if they make them for the legacy?

Is the factory intercooler up to the job or is it worth while upgrading to maybe an STI one from a later model WRX?

Basically what im wanting from the car is a reliable daily that i can take to the track or drags once in a while and not have to much hassle

i think they boost pretty high from standard, watch out for whiney turbo as dumpipes from the turbos causes overspool in the primary turbo and makes get worn out faster.

So yea i wouldnt touch the boost, a good thing to get it zerosports controller which lessens lag between turbos

And for suspension if i was to lower an other legacy id go straight to some Sti shocks & lowering springs, which should make it rather low.

Yeah, you'll have to do some upgrading if you want it to "boost hard". The grey top injectors won't really handle much boost either. There's always the GTB upgrade... those ECU's run larger injecotors, the larger AFM, and they got larger turbo's. After that you gotta start thinking single turbo conversion.

But as stock, they pretty much run as much boost as they can before braking. And even then they blow the primary turbo's on a regular basis.

Good car you're looking at there, but given it's age stuff will always need replacing on it - that's just what you get with an older car. Mines done 270kms now, no sign of giving up just yet (touch wood). It still goes well on the open road and pulls like a school boy over the 'takas.

They're a heap more reliable than the slightly newer GTB/RSB's, but at the cost of around 20kw. Intercoolers are almost identical to the STI ones (aside from maybe they have a thicker core?), but it's probably not worth the swap. Flag the boost controller and get a sequential controller for the turbos, that'll help manage the dip in power between the two a bit better.

Other must-have's would be a new fuel pump, new coil packs, new primary BOV if it doesn't have one already, and a good servicing. Other than that it should keep going without too many problems. If you want to tweak your ECU a little too I can help you out there ;)

wouldnt the stock bov be sweet if the cars near stock, or are they 1 weak bovs that seem 2 leak

They tend to start leaking and cause the 66 ecu code to appear. More just an age and wear and tear thing rather than not being good enough.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
