the axels are also a weak point once u get to a 6 sped box (with proper clutch)

i once snapped the front axles on a 6 speed box - powe was a dyno proven 208kw@ wheels and running a 6puck clutch and an 8krpm launch..

anyway, as others have summrised, the 5 speed will not take hard launches at that power level. get a dog box i reakon or if can find then a 6 speed..

in either case, 260kw at w is bloody hard case for a legacy - be reall good to see it running down the strip one day haha showoing the impreza boys a thing or 2 lol :D

TBH pappu from what iv heard and seen (the 6 speed axles are HUGE compared to gc8) and last a long longer..

For you to break at that power you must of been being a animal.lol

They would be much stronger than any gc8 axle before it.

Iv done a few launcheso n my 6 speed with gc8 axles 4k launch control and lasted fine so far.

If i broke hten would go to the 6 speed ones as said above are much larger so id assume stronger.

AFAIK theyre longer so you may need to space your wheels out a bit.

I always thought they were a straight swap? Isn't the track difference in the hubs and the wheels themselves?

The bossman at RDL used to ping at GC8 axles all the time on his rally car (likes to tell the story of blowing one at each end when launching so couldn't even go 2wd through the stage. But apparently the whole time he had his V7 Spec C RA he never broke an axle. They've got huge cv cages compared to the GC8 stuff too.

this.. i had also understood it was in the hubs

And come to think of it.. I know Brad is using GC8 axles with his 6MT... read into that what you wil

Pretty sure the fronts are the same length (as said above, the hubs give the wider track).

An R180 GD rear half shaft is only around 5mm (if that) longer than a GC one when side by side (no CVs on them). They are thicker at the end where they go into the CV though, so definatly stronger in that area (which is where they seem to break).

Stronger and more common then - if there are no issues with installation on a GC8, sounds like a goer over the Type R stuff, which is harder to get...

i know you have to be careful with v9 onwards stuff as the stubs are opposite from earlier stuff.. Ie you know how they are male stubs on the gearbox's for front axles, as i understand it the gearboxes in v9 onwards are female.. making the halfshalfs male... those you'l have a big c0ck fest trying to mate v9 half shafts to (up to) v8 gearbox.. ;D.

they can be converted tho, as is a v9 gb im looking at

I've got a new-ish 5-speed in mine that has the male inner cv's but I just got some stub's off an old gearbox and fitted them into the front diff. Just needed top swap around the seals and now I can use my old front axles so its all do-able, depends on how many bits and pieces you have access to though :)

Hmmmm that is handy to know. Mine is a version 8 box, and will be getting the earlier hubs of course. So the shafts should come from the same, I'm picking...

:)

Oh man, here comes a torrent of jokes...

/facepalm

If you expect a torrent of jokes why say anything at all Shale?

5MT from a WRX or STi is all you need! Sell the 6MT so you can finish off other projects imo.

still have the axels from that day (just as a reminder i suppose).. and yea they are thick bro.. but 8k rpm launch may have just been too much.. i dunno... 8)

in any case, the front are strait fit (also in a B4 too haha) but the rear splines are different in the standard hub so need to mod with new hub or cut and weld the axle - not recomended as they break easily at the weld lol

??? The R180 CV outer splines are all the same in my experience... V3-10

or are you talking about R160 rear axles?

did anyone else have trouble fitting the front 6spd axles to the older style hubs, i found that the the outer CV boots were too large and dont clear (on a BC5)

Probably just a matter of finding a smaller boot.. but if anyone has a part number thatll make my life easier ;)

the axels from the r180 diff didnt fit the b4 hubs as the splines didnt match..

maybe the r160 hubs are the same in the other sti - not sure

the front ones slip right in as per earlier comment - i only meant the issue with the rear axles

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
