What exactly are you doing?

trying to upgrade wrx to sti spec. i have injectors, orange afm,vf22

guy reckon wont run right would need aftermarket ecu not sti 1

and alot of other crap, not sure exactly....

but from what ive heard, read, i thought it was as easy as adding sti turbo, sti yellow injectors, sti ecu to reap these benefits

You can upgrade to the STI stuff but you need it all.

i.e. injectors, ECU, AFM plus prob a few other small bits and pieces probably.

any ideas what?

if my car dont sell i will be goin through with this

Haven't done it myself so don't know if there's any little issues that'll pop up to catch you out.

PM Kameniko, I know he's done a swap of V2 to V3 STI stuff which is prob more involved than what you're doing but he should know how to get it all running off the V3 ECU.

i think gng from V2 to V3 loom is definately required.. .Different plug ECU..

V2 = 4 plug, V3 = 3 Plug.

If your gng from V3 WRX ---> V3 STI, you should only need

  • (orange) AFM
  • (Yellow) INJ
  • V3 STI ECU, and a turbo upgrade from the TH04h - ie go to a VF23, VF22, or TH05 (im sure many other VF series fit also)

:) Happy modding

What the hell is a TH04h? or for that matter a TH05

    I'm assuming a TD04 which doesnt have an H designation (TD04/TD04L) and a TD05/TD05H

All other VF series turbo will fit bar the twin scroll types which still bolt on but require a twin scroll uppipe.

    Lol yep TD04 & TD05H.

Personally I would go for something like a VF28 - or something similar so yyou don't need big revs for decent power - as you only have WRX insides

To get up to sti spec, remember the engine is completely different so ul never be up to that spec unless u do a whole engine swap. And even then, u gotta think of STI 4 pots brakes, suspension and all the other things that go with it.

I know its not an answer ul like, but generally speaking unless you have good contacts/know how/and help it really is honestly better/cheaper selling and upgrading to an STI. I was in a similar situation and decided to be easier/cost effective selling up and buying a heavily worked wrx instead.

thanks anyways will be sellin and upgrading

I find it's a very common misconception, just chuck on an afm, injectors etc etc which yeah I have heard lots of guys who have done it and it does seem to work. But then after dyno runs etc they get close to an sti but all it takes is a mildly modified sti to completely spank a wrx with these mods and u feel like back at sqaure one lol. I mean unless ur wanting to do monster mods and be ripping out the sti stuff anyways like forged engine rebuild, brembo brakes, adjustables, upgraded fuelling, big turbo then an sti will easily do the trick for you. And gives you boatloads more room to have a play mods wise.

so what gains can i expect (if any) for the simple sti afm, inj, turbo swap?

why would sublab say id be wasting my time it wont run right?

    cheers heaps

Im unsure on exactly why they say that, but at a guess they have hit a few problems with people doing that . Few guys on here have done similar so Im sure they can post up their findings and issues.

Gains wise well in essence will be an increase in kw atw(horsepower at the wheels), the only main issue is because u have stock wrx internals which already has a boost cut is set at 16psi. Stock wrx engines don't like being run above 16psi (well for long periods lol b4 things go bang ) in which sti engines run at a stock 18psi(approx) so there is ur first problem lol which can be sorted.

And again it rears the ugly head the pros/cons between wrx vs sti, since ur wrx wont be running the power an sti will be (close but not quite there) a stock sti would still in theory outperform your wrx as it has a different engine setup.

    quite a read :)

well i dont have a wrx but a forester.

from what i understand the v3/v4 engine (standard form)non sti are the same as stb forester.

i have done the whole sti uprade on my 98 forester.

bang for your buck....well worth it :)

ok so not quite the full sti, but hey a good solid gain.

now my flying white fridge has standard rods and all that non sti stuff.

it has seen some high boost levels (kids dont try this at home unless you have money to fix it) ;)

when i brought the ecu,afm and inj, from the old forum member 555sti in wellington.

he informed me that the sti of that year ran 16 psi standard.

one thing i would suggest is that if you get the waste gate actuator with the turbo.

otherwise an aftermarket boost controller,so you can set the boost level and not worry.

mine runs 16psi daily not a problem.

MHO....as for sublab ........well i think they are trying to upsell, and drum up buisness :)

    cool!

did you have to get this dyno tuned, or was it a straight plug n' play?

Yeah doesnt take much for someone to bag a tuner, had similar issues with my tuner. I have no problems and always go there, but my god have I heard heaps of bad things. Yet I've never met a person who has had any issues with his tuning, everyone I know is more then happy with the tunes he does. Hence only takes one person to spread crap round.

        Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

        Cheers Shaun
