hey guys and girls,

i have just finished my car off but putting a V6 STI block in it and version 4 wrx heads and did a split fuel rail system and put it all back to gether in the car with a after market fuel regulator which i am running at about 42-43 psi.... when i start the car it is very hesitant on starting the whole engine and car shakes like hell and on the boost guage the needle is at 0 .. and when i press the throttle it will kill itself... and few back fires out of the throttle body and air filter...

any suggestions please .. i am desperate for help at the moment.

Sounds like a massive vac leak.

timing? does it start and run eventually?

it wont even idle to even fget it going properly ... when the cambelt was done the timming was checked like 5 times by 5 mechanics... so dont think it would be that

got all your boost solenoid vacuum lines the right way round?

do you have the coils in the right holes? or the leads on the right way round, it sounds like ign prob.

its a version 4 so yea i did my very best to put all the parts back the same as before i took it out

if its popping/backfiring out the intake either it has incorrect cam timing or the ign timing is wrong. maybe have another look man.

assuming u have got the cambelts and all done CORRECTLY - as in no turned cam or something , and ur igniton wiring is all ok then the leak is the only other thig

gauge should read negtive if there is no leak

changed the fuel pump to a bigger fuel pump due to going split rail and it starts better than before and idles sorta better than before but still choking after 5secs of proper idle

do you have the feed and return hoses on the right way around?

its feeding to the line near the alternator and returning fuel from the line near the intercooler is that how it is suppose to be?

v6 (phase 2 block) and ver 4 (phase 1) heads?

did you check compression ratios? and valve clearance?

what head gaskets did you use? thick or thin style gaskets?

am sure the one thats fitted is thick....

Definitely sounds like a fueling issue, I had the exact same thing when my external walbro fuel pump died. Turned out to be a fuse and once I had it replaced was back to going great again.... I'd check all connection and make sure ur pump is definitely working, also check ur fuses and alike also.

probably not of any use, but i had similar issues trying to start once after a build.. confusing as hell

my cause was leaking injector seals AND incorrect sparkplug firing sequence = fuel igniting at the wrong time giving some weird-as results

i have changed my standarad fuel pump to a bigger denso fuel pump. where would be the fuel fuse be placed in a wrx so i can check it please .... if its not the fuel do think that there is a massive leak somewhere?

Um since I have a external pump also setup with an internal my fuse was setup by the battery, but I would assume it should be in the two fuse boxes. It would have to be a pretty massive leak if it was, I've seen cars with pretty huge leaks still run fine but would have serious boost issues when any power was applied.

yea its a pain trying to work around it trying to figure out what is the prob as this is my first time i ever worked on subaru ... but i always appreciate all the help

the vacuum guage reading zero is more likely caused by incorrect cam timing or bent valves? did you turn over by hand first?

yea after installing the cambelt the engine was turned manually by hand quite a few times....

i managed to get the car idling good not but when you rev it to about 3000rpm it seems to start popping and farting away and when in gear and try to drive it will not have power to pull but the engine will start dying,... white smoke is comming out of the exhaust and i can smell fuel...

you recon unburnt fuel and not a good mixture ?

Have you checked your cam belt is all timed up right? And the cams are in the correct place?

Injectors and coils plugged in correctly??
